What I've heard lately out of the ultra's (left and right) kind of comes down to "I've already made up my mind, don't confuse me with the facts."

Do ya think Obama hired Trump to go to the big fund raiser in Vegas for Romney????With a friend like Donald you can't afford to have any enemies!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

The way I see it, it's one of the few positive things to happen lately and the liberals will jump on giving credit to Obama, though I seriously doubt that had anything to do with it. That being said it's possible that the speculators caved in to pressure from the administration though anything is possible.Ken Thomas

I think it's called cheer leading..............they want to spin anything possible in a positive direction for their guy to get re-elected. Even heard some attempts at trying to spin the increase in unemployment numbers, and the miserable new job creation stats a couple days ago.
What I wonder is, where did all the folks go who always attack the future traders as "speculators" when the prices are going down as those guys are just as active on the down stroke as on the up stroke? Natural gas prices have halved in the past year........if folks are to be consistent shouldn't they be "blaming" the "speculators" for that?Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Missed your post Ken, looks like I was typing when you posted.
As for the traders, it's a matter of market conditions. First, Europe is moving ever closer to having to admit that a couple or few states are about broke and may have to bail on the Euro. That in turn has strengthened the dollar and weakened gold and other commodities. Since oil is priced in dollars a stronger dollar means that the price can come down a bit based on higher value of money traded for. Add to that that China is compressing some in their economy, lowering demand slightly, and it's logical to be bidding down future prices. There are even more factors to be considered but those should be enough to make the point. Maybe some day we as citizens will come to recognize that the notion of private sector "greed" is proffered by the politicians and their lap dogs to strengthen their hold over us. Give me the free market (please!) over a genuinely greedy (for power) politician any day.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Wisconsin recall ....... HAH!
This morning at about 0400 I stumbled out to the road to get the labor-liberal rag we use for a newspaper in the Fort Worth area. I was anxious to look at final vote count from Wisconsin. I stayed awake long enough last evening to hear that the call was in favor of the governor.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram tells me that that Governor Walker "survived a recall effort" and tried to make it sound like it was no big deal.
He more than survived. Winning 53 to 46 percent is more than survival.
THAT'S AN OLD FASHIONED A-WHUPPIN'!

In political terms it may be a whuppin', and about time IMO, but it's still a slim balance when you consider that it's the producers vs the takers when you get to the details. Union sentimentalists who operate from emotion rather than reality won't agree, but that's another discussion.
Like little children, who are also takers rather than producers, the hissy fits begin: Gov. Scott Walker death threats after recall victory being investigated by police - NY Daily News
I'm sure the President will take a couple minutes from his full time job of fund raising to urge civility on the part of his allies (sure ).Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

The government doesn't have to do it, private citizens still care!!!!! Just watching the early news, a private organization in Sioux Falls is providing "brown bag" lunches to people who are trying to work their way out of poverty.... With nothing more then a poster at Job Service, folks who have been unemployed and find themselves a new job can stop by this volunteer organization and grab a free brown bag lunch to take to work with them!!!!
No big deal you say? Well, they put out 400 free lunches every day for these new hires, and if you've been one of the folks unemployed for anytime at all the free meal probably helps a lot. The contents of the lunch would cost you about $6.00 per day or $30.00 a week---for those just going back to work, 30 bucks a week can be a lot!!! Best part is, it doesn't cost us taxpayers a dime, contributions come from business and individuals in the Sioux Falls area. Those who can help, have the opportunity to do so. Goes to show that things can be accomplished to help people trying to help themselves without yet another ridiculously expensive and wasteful government program!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

That's an interesting approach to the situation, Dave.
I'm sitting here wondering where one should go to suggest that a system like that might work in my area.
My first thought was the local Chamber of Commerce but I'm kinda "persona non grata" around there.

Ya think the American people aren't upset with the Campaigner in Chief. Just seen on Drudge:
"(Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Republican groups raised more than $76.8 million in May, his campaign said on Thursday, topping the $60 million President Barack Obama and his Democratic allies hauled in.
The campaign and Republican National Committee have $107 million cash on hand, the campaign said."
Oh and this as well - nice guy!!!!
"President Obama, in Los Angeles for a fundraiser, offered this observation on his wife's exercise routine, via the pool report:
“Michelle outdoes me in pushups as well,” he said, after saying that she’s taken some criticism on her technique “because she doesn’t go all the way down” – a line that he let hang, naughtily, provoking laughter from the crowd."
There are more comment on line about this, but this is NOT what I need to hear from our so-called president in a public gathering.

Ah, if only Alan hadn't gone back into the witness protection program again.................
He'd be on here wailing about the Citizen's United decision, evil corporate donations, and how much out of state money Gov. Walker used to beat his noble opponent yesterday. As a public service to my fellow travelers an advance B.S. alert to keep in mind during the next 5+ months. That being the misinformation about campaign contributions.
First the observation of a paradox. When then Sen. Obama outspent Sen. McCain in 2008 by something around 3 to 1, it only warranted a passing mention. Often couched in phrasing that pointed out how much valid support Obama was getting based on the dollar flow. Now? Well, if Mr. Romney is able to raise as much, and worse if he raises more, it will be illegitimate money.....evil corporate money.....buah ha ha....
Second, an alternate game as we saw in so much "reporting" yesterday. You may have heard that Walker outspent his opponent by 7 to 1....that's why he won. And most of it was "out of state money", as if to invlidate those contributions. Well, the truth is somewhat different. The two parties (making that distinction because there were more than just two candidates for one office, there was also the Lt. Gov, and four state senate seats in play) benefitted from nearly the same amount of donations; Media Cite False Spending Differential To Explain Walker Win For fun though let's just play with the numbers the whiners were using yesterday. They said Walker got $30 million, to Barretts $4 million (rounded for discussion sake). And they would add that 2/3 of Walker's contribution came from "out of state". Some math......that means $10m from in state. So, let's assume that ALL of the money they claim went to Barrett was from in state (not realistic, but still works for the real point here). That means that STILL from in state contributions Walker pulled 2 1/2 times more support.....yes, in state contributions. So what's the point? Surprise, the news is spun.
Lastly, NONE of this has to do with the Citizen's United decision. That decision relates only to federal campaign finance.......NOT state level elections. And another point, the Citizen's United decision benefits BOTH labor unions as well as corporations.
Facts don't support the whines.................but then, that's not really a surprise either is it?Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 06-07-2012 at 11:36 AM.

Can't be serious political stuff all the time, so how about a little humor. John Cleese is one funny Brit............
ALERTS TO THREATS IN 2012 EUROPE
BY JOHN CLEESE
The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Libya , Egypt and Syria and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.
The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.
The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France’s white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.
Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."
The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniforms and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose."
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels .
The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.
Australia , meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be alright, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is cancelled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.
