The all-knowing media commentators seem to agree that the outcome of our approaching election will be determined by "The Undecideds".
It's hard to believe that there are still thinking voters out there who are genuinely undecided (the key word there is "thinking") but if such voters exist, may I ask that they think about whether we need any more Obama-appointed Supreme Court Justices?
Another consideration is the fact that the controlling party makes Congressional Committee appointments and assignments, and a little reading up on the importance and responsibilities of Congressional Committees might help in deciding whether to vote for Barry or Mitt.
Personally, I ain't undecided.

When and where I started voting (no age related wisecracks here, please) you just about HAD to vote a straight ticket. Except for in national elections, sometimes there were no Republicans on the ballot. Now liberals have come to identify with the Democrats and the conservatives with the Republicans.
Texas used to be loaded with conservative Democrats like the Northeast had its liberal Republicans. Now I nearly always split my ballot, but to a lesser degree than I once did. I haven't split it in a national race for quite a while.
In state elections I can always find a Republican candidate (or two or three) who is obviously a real horse's patoot, In which case I can cross over without suffering any pangs of guilt.

I've never voted a straight ticket and there are certainly "horse's patoots" on both sides and the first vote I cast I'll have to admit was for Johnson in 64. Since I was in Okinawa at the time Ohio sent me a ballot and I filled it out. And like Jim said there were moderates on both sides and I tried to figure out who I thought would do the best job and I still look at it that way although the moderates have seemed to disappeared. I like Claire McCaskill, but she cast the deciding vote on Obamacare and that turned me off. The Senate race in Missouri is about the only thing I'm undecided on after Akin's gaffe.Ken Thomas

I'm across the line, but Akin just about reached up and nailed his own coffin lid down tight with his totally stupid statement about rape. I saw a political cartoon today that had him receiving a call hoping that he would not bale out, and the next panel was Claire on the other end, smiling broadly at the uptilt of her poll ratings since. Cute, but like you I fear she's a bit too much in Mr Obama's back pocket to be a reliable representative for Missouri.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Didn't get a chance to reply until now.
As a said,I like the idea of voting for people who would do the best job no matter what political party they are in. The thought I have is the party lines would be so split up,do get anything done would be worst.
For me,the special interest groups are the same ones who spend my money without a thought at all about me. The tree huger would has changed the face of the auto industry forever. The do good er who thinks they have to tell me if I can smoke, where I can smoke, and how much it is going to cost me to smoke.Yeah,I don't remember asking for any of that. The special interest
groups who changed our national language from English just because we couldn't stand up for our own heritage.I do remember when people from all over the world moved here and was more than willing to learn about our traditions and English and not use special interest groups to play on our sensitivities of those poor.poor, people just want to keep their families traditions.Nope, they want to change ours forever. The special interest groups that just continue to cloud the issues and yes make it more complicated than it really is.Honestly,I have never see a lobbyist who spoke what I want. It's a whole like negating the election, where all I want is to eliminate the middle man(who I didn't elect) and have a elected official do what I put him in office to do.Represent me.I do totally agree with you to prosecute graft and bribes.
Staff members??. It is just another case of a agenda of people who once again influences policies that I did not vote for. Another layer of government.Key question is does the member of congress run the staff who has likely been in Washington for yrs or does the staff run the member of congress??. I think the staff runs the congressman.
We jump conclusions all to easily.Treat side stories like some sort of soap opera.Smart people come in all sizes and shapes. To say Chris Christie wouldn't do a good job because of his size is a prime case of maybe another missed opportunity. There are tons of stories that never should be apart of politics. We lose hundreds of good people every yr just because of that.Let's let the mud slinger's go off by themselves to their own mud wrestle match.
This is something new to this post.I am concerned, say two generations away from us old guys, what government is going to look like because the only ref's those generations will have is what a screwed up mess we have now.Good Bye

a couple of years ago i ran across a list of government programs. my eyes crossed and my brain hurt before i could get a 1/4 of the way through. the whole country is supported by the government in one way or another. as far as i'm concerned if you work for one of these government supported programs you are the problem. it is enough to make one nauseous . i did not ask to support you nor do i care about the all important cause you work for. take care of your damn self and stop making up for your short comings by trying to save the world or some friggin minnow or lizard . i will do just fine without either . i swear if a 60 ft tall man eating dinosaur was found some left wing nut case peta fool would want to protect it . in texas we would have a big barbecue .
when you have time to kill look up some of this foolishness. i dont like plays, i dont like drama, i dont like the arts so why in the hell should i support it ????????

Dave, I'm always open to debate and considering other opinions as well as credible sources for accurate info (heck, you and I have been doing this for a decade or so and neither has quit yet#). But since you asked the above question I'll respond as "gently" as I can. I thought I did a reasonable job enumerating my sources, which those who are idealogues will scream "FOX NEWS blah blah" or whatever to attempt to discredit. That's not serious debate, nevermind the inaccuracy. To the claim that Ryan's budget "cuts" Medicare, I pointed out that if it's read in it's real form, there is no cut, just a lesser rate of growth than letting it run uncontrolled as is built in. That's not opinion, it's reality.
As to the often floated argument that the Bush era tax cuts "cost the economy", all one has to do is look at IRS data from their website to see that revenues did in fact increase after the cuts. Not opinion, again, fact from the governments own data. Statements to the contrary are what are not factual, intended or not, misinformation is harmful.
I could go on but that would be even more boring than this already is. I wish you were correct about much of the populace being well informed. But I think that the low voter participation that you rightly point out is an indicator of the opposite. Jim's comments about "undecideds" is reflective too. There are a lot of folks who just don't pay attention until the last couple weeks of a cycle. They vote on emotion not intellect. That's neither right nor wrong as far as a method of decision, it just is human nature for some. Otherwise...................hope and change as a philosophy wouldn't float (although there is a scatalogical reference I could make that would contradict myself )Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 08-27-2012 at 07:13 AM.

Bob.I want to add that some voters vote because of "looks" or a ability to deliver a speech, but no substance to back it up. Look at what happened here where people got caught up in the idea of the first black president. Certainly parties do hold auditions before announcing candidates complete with TV screen tests. It is one thing with voting we need to work on. The fact the people in power think for little of us.Good Bye

I don't know, Bob!!!! I think I'm just frustrated more then anything!!! Some of the fixes are so dang obvious, but it seems whomever is in power just never gets anything done about it!!!! I'm frustrated with the non-committal attitude of most legislators, good grief! Take a position and stay with it regardless of what the polls say is popular this week!!!! Romney just seems so wishy-washy to me, not sure I trust the guy at all. Many voters and politicians seem to be so infected with extremism that they wouldn't admit the 'other guy' had a good idea if it was something that would save their life!!! Then there's all the cheap shots, half truth's, innuendos, and out and out bold faced lies that no politicians seem to have any credibility anymore!!!!! The whole dang system just appears to be broken and nobody seems to give a hoot about repairing things!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
