The situation, Shine, is that here (Texas) is where the refineries are.
Refineries aren't pretty and they don't smell too good so nobody wants one for a neighbor.
Mention building new ones and the Obamites scream their heads off.
Seaports are here to haul off the products.
So I say bring it on down.

Well, no big surprise from Fox News (aka the Republican Party) Turn on CNN and you'll probably here the exact opposite (The way liberal Democratic Party). So, public schools and Obama's 3 years as President are all to blame????
Sorry folks, changing Presidents and changing parties ain't gonna fix anything... Afraid it's probably too late for that. All these political geniuses running things in Washington these days must have had their heads buried in the sand for the last 3 decades if they think all these problems are new!!!! Always a lot of talk, but nothing worthwhile ever gets done. Doesn't really matter who's president anymore, he's just the first guy to get blamed when things go bad!!!! The people to blame are the "do nothing" Congress that we keep voting into office!!!!
JMO, but I'm starting to think that the election in 2012 might be just about our last chance to get some people in Congress who might actually do something good for the country, and not just for the special interest groups that own them!!!! I dunno, maybe things are too far gone already and we're just riding it out til the big crash hits......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Dave,
What I got from the Fox News clip was not so much anti-Obama as it was the sad situation with Generation Y, and the following Generation Z with their "I am owed" mentality. I agree that one cannot assign blame to the sitting president or congress for the younger generation's philosophy - it is something that has been ingrained in them as they have evolved, and is indicative of a societal problem more than a leadership problem. In fhe Fox News clip the professor pointed out that the events in his class preceded the "Occupy Movement", which I firmly believe can be pinned squarely to Obama and his flawed 1% mantra that continues to be spewed via the more liberal side of the media.
No, the problems are not new, but it does not bode well for those of us who are no longer in the work force when Gen Y and Z have the attitude that seems to be a common thread - the government owes me, I am entitled, tax the rich give to me, and on and on. For any that believe that line of BS take a look at the "joke" posted today about the group of friends at the bar - it's sadly not a joke!! As I heard recently, Costa Rica is looking better all the time....Roger

True, I guess then the one's who are actually to blame for the "I am owed" mentality would then be their parents??? so easy to blame the schools, blame those dreaded liberals, or blame somebody....we ended up with a generation saying "you owe me" because that is what they were taught....
Hey, Obama is no different then any other president.....he saw where appealing to a generation of "you owe me" types would get him a whole bunch of votes, so that's what he's doing!!!! But really, has the Occupy bunch really done anything other then give people something to laugh about???? The one's who sit on their butts waiting for a handout have never and will never accomplish anything. They're vocal and get a lot of press, but that's about all... What they will do is VOTE for the one who offers up the most freebies, they're too naive to know that no one person can deliver all those promises, but they'll probably win an election because they believe what they believe and they VOTE for it!!!!!!! The rest of us will scatter our VOTES all over the board, or not VOTE at all, and we'll lose again..... Oh well, we'll have somebody to blame, anyway......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I think it's been established that in this country we have the best politicians that money can buy, unfortunately Joe Average can't afford to buy himself a Congressmen or two... But, we do have the power to hire and fire the next batch we send to Washington! Too bad people get so hung up on all the political party crap and don't pay any attention to who their representatives and senators actually are and more importantly what they stand for. The lobbyist issue has never been dealt with. How could we expect to see a Congressional Inquiry on Congressional Corruptness? People are always good at showing a huge dose of self-righteous indignation when someone in Congress gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar.... Our own Senator Tim Johnson was just proven to be giving out insider trading information to friends and family (has been legal for a Congressmen to do this, though you or I would go to jail for it)..... too bad you had to listen to the second hour of the Public Broadcasting news to even hear about it.... It's just no big deal anymore, just business as usual.
Congress does an exceptional job of doing nothing and getting away with it!! If the truth were ever published on what these guys make in "on the side" money, the "favors and considerations" the receive, and just plain illegal and unethical practices that they participate in maybe, just maybe, the voters would actually get upset enough to do something about it! Probably not.... We're all so busy (and emotional) about calling the president names, and getting all excited about who the next president should be when in reality the president is just one man and can actually do very little to change anything by himself...
Everybody wants something for nothing, but nobody wants to pay for it! I guess I don't understand why taxpayers should have to pay off student loans for people who's education trained them for a job that isn't there anymore... but then I don't understand why education has to be so danged expensive, either! I wish a college education could be available to all, just like a high school education is now, but I don't see where the money would ever come from. What I would say is that we certainly haven't done much of a job educating this younger crowd if all they have learned is that the government and corporate America owe them something!!!! I still remember President Kennedy saying "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country." I must have missed the memo when that went out of style!!!! I still think if people would take the time and the expense to do something good for their local community and for their country things could improve.... Just too much of this me, me, me, and the pursuit of the almighty dollar, and oh yeah, respect!!!! We're now supposed to respect (fear?) everyone, even though they have done nothing to earn this respect!!! I think lots have respect and consideration confused---I should be considerate of others, but I don't think they have any respect coming unless they earn it!!!!
I'd say this whole country just has too many selfish people only concerned with what's best for them, and are no longer concerned with what's best for the entire country. I also believe this will be one of the many reasons for this country to continue to decline and become even more polarized then it is now!!! Maybe it's time to bring up the 2 years of National Service, then go on to college program again??? Perhaps a bit of practical experience would make the education more meaningful??? Something has to change, that's for sure!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

There you go! 2 years of National Service! We, each and every one of us does a 2 year stint in Congress and then we'll all be eligible for the health care and retirement bennies we can write a book, etc, etc. We just need a grass roots effort to vote out an incumbent and insert whomever hasn't been in there before!
I'll bet it cut's down on the corruption and we'll have far more common sense in place! I'll run for it but, right now we all know I've got a snowballs chance in _ _ _ _!

Again with the tired tactic of denegrate the messenger (got a 4 bagger there Alan) so as to distract attention from the real problem enumerated in the message. I don't know where Dave got his need to defend Obama since I don't recall that being the point of the report. Was his name even mentioned? To deny that we have close to, if not in excess of, a majority of people who believe that someone else owes them for (fill in the blank) without providing any value in exchange is the height of self imposed ignorance. We've spent pages enumerating facts (mostly based on government published figures) about how many people have become dependent on handouts from government, that empower politicians who dole them out, and for ideological reasons you all on the left are afraid that all your self serving do-gooderism will be exposed for the enslaving process that it is. I know, your intentions aren't to enslave people to the political class and their cronies, but I'm talking about outcomes, not intentions. Plug the fingers in the ears, and chant la-la-la-la-la, and advocate again for the same policies promising THIS TIME it will really work..............it'll all go away.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

I have one simple question for someone who supports the 1% trickle down mantra. What did the 1% do to justify the theft of their property?Roger

Obama was mentioned at the very end of the newscast.... and I didn't defend him, just mentioned that his pandering to the "you owe me" crowd was no different then any other politician saying whatever he has to say to get the votes he needs to stay in office....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

So I'd like to pose my question once again, hoping for an answer from the "enlightened ones" from the liberal left.
It's really not a tough question, so I hope that someone can help me understand. Alan mentioned in his post, speaking of the wonderful "Occupy Movement", that "It just a "weapon of mass distraction" (bumper sticker quote for Bob!) to hide the fact that what "Occupy" is about is the tilted table for all of us down hill from the 1%. From that it appears clear that there is a belief that the 1% should "share their wealth", and that it should "trickle down" to everyone else. What did they do wrong that subjects them to having their property stolen?? I truly do not understand this logic, and in fact it cannot be called logic.Roger

As of yesterday your question is obsolete Roger. By Presidential decree (from his own mouth no less) Women's Health, or Birth Control, or whatever other euphemism you wish, services will be provided for FREE. Whoopie!!!!!!
Of course, if that can really be done honestly as the President dictates, then why stop there? Greedy oil companies must provide fuel FREE! Evil grocery stores must provide food FREE! Demonic Levi's Corp must provide jeans FREE!! It's Utopia at last, and all it took was a simple command from the World's Smartest Man to make it clear to we simple minded dupes. A toast with your favorite adult beverage (Budweiser has been ordered to provide that free haven't they?)Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 02-11-2012 at 10:14 AM.
