Checking in
Dear Folks, sorry I have not written lately...
I have not posted for quite a while, but have checked in from time to time. Couple updates, all is well here in Northern California. I retired on December 30th and am making the adjustment to a new life style. We took a retirement cruise, a blues music cruise to the Caribbean. Now I am starting on some projects, moved the compressor outside the shop into a shed on the back side, getting ready to plumb it with copper pipe. Finally put my new Lincoln 180 welder together and laid my first bead. Took a MIG welding class at the local community college during the last fall semester so I have some confidence as I start new projects. The big one is the '54 Studebaker Conestaga station wagon I bought almost 2 years ago. Recently I have had the '53 Studebaker in the California Auto Museum for the month of January and right now it is in the Autorama at Cal Expo in Sacramento. Each of these was with other Studebakers from our local chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club.
I hope that all my friends here at CHR are doing well, and now that I have some free time, I will come by more often.
Take care
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Great to see you back, Pat! Welcome back, and welcome to the retirement game, too! It sounds like you've had a good start with the travel, and now getting into some project work. We'll look forward to seeing more of you.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Sure is good to hear from you Pat.Peter Magel yrs ago taught me alot of what I know about drag racing. It because of his Magget that I am such a fan of the bullet nose Stude's.We drifted apart, but at one time where good friends. As a kid then I would steer around corners the Magget while we flat towed to the track.
Last time I talked to John Peter's brother,he told me yrs of exposure to cleaning fluids in his shop had taken it's toll on Peter' lungs and they still had the car under a tarp in a barn.Didn't know he ended up in a rest home through.
Peter Megel's 52 Studebaker Maggot
Just to pass along a story to you about Peter. He rolled out of the staging lights because one lane at Lancaster was at a slight incline.Wouldn't know it someone shuck into the track and took a pic ax to dig a divet so the car would not roll out anymore of the staging lights. The story it was Peter, but it couldn't be proved.I asked him about that and he just smiled and said he didn't know.Last edited by 1gary; 02-16-2012 at 10:53 PM.

Good having you back with us Pat! Congrats on having the Stude on display! Should get more people to appreciate just how advanced Studebaker was in some of their styling and building!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

It's about damn time...............................Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity converge.
Merry Christmas ya'll
