NASCAR questions??.
Just some general curiosity questions I have.
On a race like the 500.How many cars to the teams bring??.Say a primary car crashes during test and tune. And the back-up crashes during running for position.Does NASCAR allow for a second back up race day at the back of the pack??.
Typically how many cars does teams have in total??.
If a driver drives a car to the garage to be repaired after a crash, does NASCAR rules limit in the garage the number of people that can work on the car for the repair like they do for the number of crew members over the wall??.
I see two tire guys,a jack man,a fuel guy,a spotter,a crew chief, and two guys on the other side of the wall rolling tires out to the tire guys. But when a winner drives into the winner's circle there seems to be a ton more guys there at the race.Any idea how many people in a team at a race like the 500 and what each do??. How many people does a race team employ in total and what do they do??. Do the guys at the track like tire guys also work at the shop??.
How many engines do you guys think a team uses in a season??.
I have watched on TV these races for yrs,but never considered any of the questions above.Sure I know these are multi million dollar race operations.
Thanks.

1Gary,
At the race the teams have two cars. The primary and the backup.
They are allowed to bring in more cars if they wreck the two that they brought.
Most teams have at least 3-5 cars for each different type of track. I.E. Superspeedways such as Daytona & Talladega, Then the 1 mile tracks and then the short tracks. A lot of the teams have different cars even for the same type of track (standard and dropped snout).
Nascar does limit how many crew member can came to the track but there are more than just the over the wall guys. The extra crew members are there just to work on the car during practice and the race if needed but only a specified amount can be in the pits on race day.
Most if not all of the guys at the track work at the shop also. Some of the over the wall crew members have regular jobs off site during the week and only crew the car on the weekends.
Most teams have 10 or more engines setting around at any time. On most race weekends the teams are limited to using only one engine unless something happens to it. It can only be replaced with the approval of Nascar. Same with the cars. If a car is wrecked Nascar has to approve going to a backup car. When this approval is done the car has to start at the back of the field no matter where they qualify.
Now when I say most teams I mean the bigger teams like Hendricks, Rouch, Penske and the likes. Some of the smaller teams have only maybe 3-6 cars only. These are for the three different types of tracks, superspeedway, intermediate & short tracksBug

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
