Yeah, the whole thing has just turned into a media frenzy with "experts" coming out of the woodwork!!! Certainly not the first cheating incident in NASCAR's history and certainly not the last!!! As the crew chiefs get sharper and figure out new ways to circumvent the rules, the tech people find new ways to catch it---been that way forever. What many people don't know or have forgotten is that 2 of the Championships Johnson won had a similar incident resulting in Knaus' suspension and loss of driver/owner points so it's not even anything new for the 48 team, just another been there, done that, got the trophy!!!! Then, the old racer in me has got to wonder just how much stuff Chad has and does get away with that is never caught by NASCAR??? Could it all be just another game of misdirection just like the old shell game???Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I found this on another forum and thought it fit this topic very well!
My favorite quote about the subject is from Junior Johnson who said something like "If you can find a car on the track that isn't cheating, then you found a car running at the back of the field."

It would be a lot more fun if most of the rules were tossed and they went back to "Run what Ya brung"

Yeah-somewhere in the history of NASCAR there has to be a reason why the rules evolved to the current rules.
Maybe someone more informed than me could post some of that history.

It's very simple. Those with the money can buy the speed to win! It happens in all forms of motorsport. If you win alot you get the sponsers and the cycle repeats over and over. People get sick of only one winner and no competition, so we have rules to equalize the cars and increase competition. That's it in a nutshell. It's been that way from the moment 2 cars pulled alongside each other! Racers are always looking for an advantage!

Here is a novel idea.Change the rules.Isolate the uninvolved hired driver by letting the points go to the driver only and not the team.

There already is driver points and owner points---both categories are docked as part of the penalty, along with the fines and suspensions..... Chad didn't decide and do the C Pillar mods on his own!!!! Stretching the rules and running in the grey area is part of racing, nothing will change that!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Truly Amazing!!!! The final appeal cancelled out the loss of points and suspensions, but kept the $100k fine!!!!!!
NASCAR sure did wring this whole thing out for a lot of extra publicity!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I think(but I am not certain)that makes him 13th in the points.Does that mean they can use the part that was claimed to be illegal?
While I am thinking about this, how much does Chad make a yr??. Does $100,00 really that much to him or does the boss pay the fine for him??Last edited by 1gary; 03-20-2012 at 07:13 PM.
