I'm sorry if I mistook your responses. I do agree with the fact that a nicely done car /truck will get good money. The ones Da34 shows are of quality caliber. Again, sorry guys.

I think the point is that if you take one of those quality cars that sold for big money a year or two ago that's been sitting in a museum setting (no scars, no wear & tear since sold) and run it across the block today chances are it will bring a much lower price, maybe as much as 30-40% less than before. I could well be wrong, but it seems to me that the market has softened quite a bit across the board, but especially for the cookie cutters that don't have the "look" of a quality build done right. Don, have any of those you sold at BJ been across the block in the past year? It would be interesting to know if they held their original value, as a market gauge.

As with any auction, it all depends on the presentation of the car, the quality and detail of the build, and at least two perspective buyers.... Then all the trends can just get blown away. Buying at an auction is not like buying one on one, seller to buyer, emotion becomes a huge part of the bidding frenzy much of the time. On the other hand, the car can be perfect in every way, drop dead gorgeous, but if the right people aren't there to bid it can sell cheap.

some years back when the bj auction was brought up on another site it got hammered for ruining the streetrod hobby. how shops were selling cars for big bucks and so on. what i asked then is the same today. since i build these cars to make a living just when is it ok for me to make some money ???? i work hard like everyone else. the very ones who were complaining were the same ones who thought their 80's build car should bring big dollars only to find out they couldn't give them away. i can promise you one thing. dont take a polished terd to one of these auctions and think you'll score. that only happens at rod runs. car collectors are twice as sharp as most hotrodders when it comes to value.go in there green and they will eat you alive.

    Rog,
The Yellow 32 coupe sold in 07 in the low 60's, it was resold in 2010 @ BJ in Florida for just about the same.
It's now on EBay for 42.
Don't know why 42, made the guy has a CASH flow problem, or his accouant told him he's gotta sell some inventory @ a loss so he can write it off and make more money on the other end.

Yeah Don, that eBay price is hard to understand for sure. That said, I'd be a lot more interested in a 2012 price for that same car in the same venue as opposed to a 2010 price. Granted, three years later says sump'n, but then again two more years can make a world of difference in the market as we all know. Thought I remembered something about the '37 you sold well several years ago running back through the same auction not too long ago and bringing a disappointing price? Likely CRS....

I think yer talkin about the 1 off 35 I did.
It sold @ BJ in 08, for a BIG #
Went to Sweden, then came back and sold for even more in 2010.
Last I heard it sold again @ an RM auction Monterey in 2012 for almost 2 times what I sold it for.
Proof that if ya build em right and Detail, detail, detail,
    they will hold their value.
Some of the stuff I've done over the years, I've built "Thinkin outside the box" - Yea, It's a crap shoot, but still love doin it.
    Just slowin down a bit
BTW Rog, can ya figure what it started out as ???????????????

Don, I'm not familiar enough with the body features of those years to venture a guess, but the end result is pleasing to the eye, for sure!

I enjoy Barrett Jackson myself wish I had BIG money to buy the one's I like. I'm glad others do have it to spend if they held on to every penny think of the people who would not have a job for various reasons like building, part's, paint, transportation etc. I get to see the beautiful cars and dream. when I hit the big buck's I'm not going to Disney I'm going to Barrett Jackson.
Keep building guy's I enjoy seeing them there. Congratulations to those that have.
