Barrett Jackson Auction -
Did anyone watch the Barrett Jackson Auction on Thursday and Friday, down in Palm Beach, Fl. ? Boy - - - they were giving the cars away. Wish I had some extra cash. 57 T-Bird - $30,000.
Mustangs - - -$9K to $25K. 35 Ford hot rod, beautiful paint, tires, exterior perfect, -needed interior $22K. Saturday the prices were higher. Do you have to pay a preminum, to have your vehicle auctioned off on Saturday?

Not sure about paying a premium, but I'm sure they load the higher quality cars for Friday night and Saturday as those are the 2 days the the big bucks guys are usually there (good for TV ratings too).I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

The prices of the cars are now finally catching up with the times. The days of guys or shops building cars to take to auction and make a bundle are over.
In todays market you don't build a car to make money. There were many cars sold at BJ that you couldn't build for what they sold for.

i have to disagree. it all depends on what you build . if the car is right it brings good money.

Yup, what Don said! Haven't been to the BJ auction for 10 years or so, but I was really impressed with the quality of the final day cars then and I'm certain it's only gotten better. Always considered the prices at Scottsdale to be a basis for what cars will sell for in the following year. The money grubbers who try to copy what sold big at the previous auction usually fall far short on quality with the cars they put together, then wonder why nobody will part with big bucks for their offering....
The tv coverage just doesn't do service to the quality of these final day cars, they are awesome to say the least!!! Fit, finish, and detail to the same level of the most pristine museum quality pieces on the planet!!!! Even if you don't have the $$$$$ to bring home one of these cars, just being able to walk around and look at the top of the line cars at auction is well worth the price of admission!!!!
I thought the prices at Miami were equal to the cars they bought for the most part. As with any auction a few unworthies brought stupid money, probably because of someone's memories of a similar car that they had or wanted when they were kids. A few didn't bring what I thought they should, but again tv doesn't show what the quality was on the build... Just my opinion, but I don't think the BJ auctions at the other locales ever bring out the same caliber of cars that show up at Scottsdale--I think Scottsdale is the premiere auction, and the others seem to be a grade or two below on quality....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

The problem seems to be the date of the West Palm Beach BJ auction. The last few years it has fallen on Easter weekend, this year was twofold as it was also Passover. Both combined seem to bring out less high rollers and more secondary market buyers looking for a steal (usually for resale at their specialty auto dealerships). Having experienced a low selling price on the 38 ProStreet Willys we donated to Make-A-Wish. I had a cash offer of 15K higher the day before it hit the block. Not my call since the car was a 100% donation (the car, transportation, the auction, detailing, etc).........Again, next year I may go down strictly as a buyer, as 72% of the cars going over the block had no reserve on them..........

Ya know I thought this site was accepting of people who voice an opinion. Im not saying I know for a fact when it comes to auctions. I have never been to any BJ, R-M or any other. But it seems like there are some here who just want to put down just a plain old car guys opinion.
