Did NASCAR Ruin Talladega Racing??

Granted, overheating was an issue with some of the teams, mostly the Hendricks cars.... Quite certain NASCAR will make rules adjustments by the time the 2nd race comes around. It would seem the Ford, Dodge, and Toyota teams worked through the heat issues and ran strong all day and had a heck of a battle at the end to decide a winner....
Or, was Talladega racing "ruined" because Hendricks didn't get his 200th win and the beloved Jr. only finished 9th??? Gordon is good at whining about other drivers and the rules at any race he doesn't win, been that way throughout his NASCAR career.....
The crash and bang crowd had their wild rollover in the ARCA race, and a 9 car wreck on Sunday. The "temper tantrums are good" crowd got to wash Danica run into Sam Hornish AFTER the checkered flag in the Nationwide race.
So, none of the 3 races were a runaway, Hendricks cars and engines couldn't take the heat, Jr. didn't win, and the Hendricks boys had to put the 200th win T-Shirts and Hats back in the trailer.....so that makes the race ruined???? Ask Penske, Roush, or TRD racing what they thought of the race and I would imagine you'd get a completely different story. IMO the only thing wrong with the race and it's coverage was that we again had to tolerate that idiot Waltrip doing the TV commentary!!! I would imagine FOX keeps him on the air for the viewers who are totally clueless as to the intricacies of making a car handle as good and go as fast as the Cup cars do. If they had someone in the booth doing the technical side of the cars, and the strategy that goes into running a race weekend they would lose all the "drama queens" who only follow NASCAR for the bs tripe that Waltrip brings to them!!!!
With 43 cars turning laps in the 180's and straightaway speeds above 200, Superspeedway racing is alive and well and after a few rule adjustments will continue to flourish as the premiere events on the NASCAR calendar. For those who don't understand the nuances of a race like this I would suggest you buy a ticket to Bruton Smith's fall Bristol race. He's taking out the progressive banking and (probably) the two wide racing and trying to get all the drivers to go back to the "bump and run" racing and retaliation that creates all the drama queen and temper tantrum specials that the uniformed race fans seem to relish!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

From NASCAR.com above,
NASCAR, like every sanctioning body is in a no-win situation. They responded to complaints of the racing "style" and created rules to change the "problems"... Now some folks are upset cause their faves didn't do well... so what happens now? More rules or rule changes?? I don't think the race was really that bad, the overheating by some cars was an issue but that always was a problem with pack racing! This wasn't the first time we saw coolant spouting at Talledega, and I'm certain it won't be the last...

I've been accused of a lot of things, but never for being politically correct or not saying how I see things. Also, the day they had Sensitivity Training I skipped school.....
All these "experts" on racing truly amaze me!!!! Most of them have never turned a lap or built a car. They also seem to be blessed with 20/20 hindsight and are experts at the would-of, could-of, should-of game!!! I've been around racing since I was about 9 years old racing a kart. Did my first 3 years of circle-burnin' using my step-brothers draft card for ID cuz I wasn't old enough to race. When some lame-brain with a degree in journalism starts lambasting what the owners, engineers, crew chiefs, and drivers do during the course of an event to me it is always glaringly obvious that have never "been there, done that" and dealt with the pressures and emotions of goin' fast in a crowd of people!!!! It's also very easy to point out others mistakes when you watch the replay in slow motion a half dozen times!!!!
For some of us, racing and Hot Rodding is more then something to do on weekends, it's a way of life!!!! We do tend to occasionally get in a bit of a tiff when some no-nothing college boy tells us how things should be!
.....and with that I'll pass my soapbox on to the next man with a rant!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

You skipped sensitivity training too??Good on ya...So did I..Never saw the need for it back then..hehe..Dave,I had the feeling that you were pretty much born into it,or started playing with cars at a young age..Yup,,way of life for us too..(My late father was a mechanic,so I was infected early on in the piece..I get frustrated with some of our club members who wont go to an event unless someone else goes (to hold their hand)...and if its out of town....phoo..did you guys go there?? (Answer:Yes,its only two hours away)..
34-40...Thanx for the results..He seemed to be doing quite well there for a while..Wondered where he finished..Last edited by lamin8r; 05-07-2012 at 06:11 PM.

Some people tune in for the wrecks. To each their own. I hate to see the wrecks but that is just part of racing. I, for one, like the side to side in packs, 6" or less off of each other. Racing to try to get an inch on someone else. I kind of also liked the tandem racing.
Think about it, racing for 400-500 miles at 180MPH+ for 3 or 4 hours and the winner sometimes wins by only 1000 of a second.Bug

Bug,not really a fan for the tandem racing myself,,but thats kool..But,,you hit the nail on the head with the rest..I have been told how BORINGGG NASCAR is,,and the same people who tell me its boring cant see the skill in racing that tight for that long..Hmmmmm..Micah 6:8

All in all not a bad race with a good ending, but since the announcer thing came up one thing that has always bugged me is these yahoos wearing a suit and tie to call a race that's just wrong! They look like the car salesmen that jump on you when you walk on a car lot. Isn't it interesting the guys in the last two back rows week after week always drop out before they even make 40 laps? Remember when Nemechek used to be "Front row Joe" ?Last edited by Jeff B; 05-08-2012 at 03:12 AM.
