    Big Willie Robinson

Though probably not as well know as some of the others we have recently lost, it looks like we will be losing another one soon.

    From Irwindale Dragstrip's FB page:

am sad to announce that Big Willie Robinson, King of the Street Racers, has been transferred to hospice care following a double amputation of his legs. The doctors are giving him 3-4 weeks to live. He can have visitors right now, but that may change.

His last wishes are to be buried with his wife Tomiko. I have been informed that the International Brotherhood of Street Racers will be taking donations to prepare for this, and Sheriff Bill has offered to pay the difference.

Cards and letters can be sent:

    Attention: Big Willie Robinson

    c/o Sharon Care Center

    8167 W. 3rd. St.

    Los Angeles, CA 90048

For those who don;t know who he is, here is a link to a short article.

Dave, I never had the pleasure of meeting Willie but I knew about him since the 60s. The more I read about him in recent years the more I admire the man for what he stood for.

Today when it seems like the national pass time is pitting one group of people against one another it’s a shame we don’t have more people like Willie who brought people to together because of what they have in common.

I remember his story well. I read every word I saw about him and the Street Racers!

We are all on the clock... so make the most of each day. They will fly by faster than you can imagine!
