There is a school in Grand Rapids that suspended 64 senior students for riding there bikes to school today.....There were 64 students suspended because they didn't tell the princciple about it,They had a police esscort and the Mayor with them. I can't get the post to past.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Some parents in Kent County say Kenowa Hills school officials overreacted when they suspended dozens of students for riding their bikes to school.

Reports say more than 100 students made the three mile bike ride this morning.
They were escorted by police and even the mayor.

But the high school principal was never told about it and she wasn't happy. She suspended 64 students for the day.In a letter to parents and staff she wrote: "While I believe the students' intent was not malicious, this activity was extremely disruptive to traffic flow and the beginning to our school day. It was also potentially dangerous due to the traffic lanes that were used for this activity."

The students will still be able to take place in the graduation ceremonies, but they will be banned from the annual senior walk through school on the last day.

That's a load of BS! You can't get most of the graduating kids to work anymore, and the majority of them rides their bikes and get in trouble? It isn't like they brought a knife or gun to school!

Buncha crap,suspend the principle. JEEEEZZZ.

What a joke..Silly cow needs to go home and count to 10..... Since when did it become a crime to ride a bike to school without permission??Another nutty PC,or ''we know whats best for you''law in schools?? The wrong people got suspended...

The Principal is waaaay off base, and should have been sure that she understood the traffic laws before she reacted. A bicycle is a form of transportation, and a bicycle rider, providing he/she is obeying all of the traffic laws, has the same right to space on the road as a car. The district superintendent needs to jerk a knot in that lady's tail, and tell her that her statements do not reflect district policy, and in fact are illegal. If I were a parent in that district I would be in her office, and in her face respectfully explaining to her what an idiot she is. Geeeeesh!!!

KENT COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Angry parents expressed their frustration tonight after children were sent home from class today for riding their bikes to school.

A Kenowa High School senior shot cellphone video recording Principal Katie Pennington delivering harsh words to a group of students who rode their bikes to school this morning as their 'senior prank.'

The administration maintains that today's ride was disruptive and caused school buses to re-route.

One of the bus drivers said tonight that at most, they were 10 mintutes late.

However, tonight's Board of Education meeting was delayed much longer due to the number of attendees.

Students, parents and alumni poured into the Administration Building to voice their issues with today's events.

Superintendent Gerald Hopkins even admitted to us that threatening to keep seniors from walking in graduation ceremonies went too far.

The small room reserved for board of education meetings saw its capacity spill into hallways, packing every inch and forcing the meeting to relocate.

Some were apologetic, some were irate in statements about Principal Katie Pennington, who was not in attendance.

Due to having missed school today as a result of the suspensions, many seniors now have final exams to make up.

As for their senior walk through the halls, where other grades congratulate them for their accomplishments, that's been rescheduled for May 30th, though many say it just won't be the same.

Sounds like a bad case of jealousy, the principal wasn't invited for the ride so she's pouting./.......

sounds like she dont like the mayor and took it out on the kidos. she needs another job with no power over others.

Probably because a broom wouldn't look right among all the bicycles............

That district needs to get her out of there and back to California! She's probably the same type of person who can't think for herself. Who ever hired her should be nervous now. LOL
