There was that one stretch where Jr. and Smoke were workin' together, Smoke pushin', looked like they were practicing a strong push/draft move to mayber use later if they can hook up again.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity converge.

Wild and crazy for sure, they sure trimmed the field down a bit two laps before the checker. Smoke and the late Earnhardt have the most wins @ that track. Was it Nascar that created that pit lane mess? The pits are open .... nope, just kidding they are closed.......
I must say I was pleasantly surprised to see they must have made some kind of change on the push car thing. Dave did you happen catch what that might be and is it for all the tracks, have we seen the last of that?I have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it

NASCAR had nothing to do with creating any mess! The cars behind the guys pitting didn't notice the leaders pitting! They literally drove over them! The leaders were already committed to the pits and the Biffs crew figured they would take advantage of the situation but it cost him big time! I wondered where all the spotters had gone off to?
The changes were not for all tracks but for the superspeedways only. And in my opinion, was a mistake. NASCAR closed up the radiator opening so the cars would overheat forcing the breakup of 2 car pairings pushing their way to the front. Now we're back to follow the leader and wait for the last 10 laps then let it all hang out and then tear up equipment!
Instead of dragging this out for 500 miles, Daytona & Talladega should become 50 lap events! At least it would cut out all the boring ride around for hours...

On the aero package, they raised the sides a bit creating more air under the back of the car and somewhat limiting the side draft effect. Limiting the coolant system pressure to 32 pounds on the Superspeedways limited how long a push car can stay in line without overheating. Fans wanted pack racing back, guess from last nights race and the big crashes they got it! Still wonder why Biffle and Kenseth could pull up so fast in the outside lane and no other cars could, maybe the Ford's just have a few more horses I suppose??
Got a kick out of the post race interviews on Victory Lane! Smoke, Kahne, Burton and a few others seemed genuinely surprised that they ended up finishing as far up as they did! The last lap crash sure did switch things up! Gordon did ok, not so with Johnson though! Nothing is set in stone for the chase yet, for sure!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Fords engine package from 2 years ago was all about cooling! They concentrated on allowing the engine to run hot and survive.
Of course it depended on raising the pressure which NASCAR took away!
They also changed the rear spoiler a bit to remove some of the draft advantage.

NASCAR's always looking at technology "advantages", and then changing the rules to take them away, sometimes temporarily to give others time to incorporate similar changes to keep the field close. Often it seems there is no justification for the rules, other than it being like Momma used to say, "Because I said so, that's why!!"Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

So true! So true.. It must create a lot of bald engineers who agonize over all these details to gain a sliver of an advantage... just to have the sanctioning body take it away!
My sentimental favorite last night was Trevor Baine.. I was hoping he could repeat a win there.. He got caught in a couple wrecks.. oh well!
You've not been around here for a while, Charlie, but when you were you had GREAT projects!! Happy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday Charlie Fisher!
