    All Star Game

Lots of eyes on Kansas City tonight, and especially "Th' K", Kaufmann Stadium. We've had the MetLife blimp tethered at the little muni airport about five miles south of our house, out SW of the metro area away from a lot of the busy air traffic. Pretty cool to see it hovering around.

Those 'things' are interesting to watch. They just kinda hang there but look away and they have moved some. I haven't seen that particular blimp, but the fair bit bigger Goodyear version seems to wander by occasionally, usually staying at the Schenectady airport, big Air Nat Guard base, and private but no commercial.

Oh - National League won. Big time!!!

Yeah, I think that a lot of people were surprised by the response of the KC fans. They (not we - I was not there....) filled the stadium for the Futures Game, which in other venues is a low draw event, and for every other part of the weekend festivities. The stadium looked great, even if it is out so far away from the downtown nightlife areas, and out of towners were pleasantly surprised that the night life action was fun & festive (as opposed to drunken revelry, fights, etc that many seem to be expecting), and that the local people would actually talk to them about their experience in town, tell them about things to see & do, and generally be friendly. Seems like it was a very positive weekend experience for most all of the folks who attended.

Glad to hear that it was a positive experience. Most people forget that much of Kansas is still the Land of Dorothy and still have most of America's values as opposed to the highly urban areas, seemingly mostly on the coasts.

Until a couple years ago, we had the Hall of Fame game at Cooperstown, about 50-60 miles Southwest of me but that too was pretty mild as it is a very rural town. Unfortunately, they only have a minor league game now during the induction ceremonies. NOW, the horse racing season at Saratoga - those 6 weeks can be pretty raucous especially when there is a big name rock band at the Performing Arts Center as well - and they're only about 10 miles away.
