I wonder how the folks around here would handle that big a change! That's heart attack territory I think! 8-)

All of that state-of-the-art hardware is amazing, but can you imagine the added cost to that house, including integration of the features, appliances, etc!! Add to that the fact that the more "on-line" we let our lives become the more susceptible to monitoring we become, and that includes the use of our credit/debit cards, which are easily tracked and reported establishing purchase trends. Just last night my daughter posted a really great automated slide show set to music covering the first year of their twin boys. This morning it was gone, wiped clean by the FaceBook admins, stating (to her) that they had deleted the file due to possible copyright concerns related to the songs she included in the file. Now on the surface that's an, "Oh, sorry, didn't think of that" thought, but in the bigger picture that means that someone, somewhere is monitoring every FaceBook post, watching for potential legal issues that could come back to them. Sure, I know that they have automated software to "look" for music files, etc, but the point is that it's being monitored!! Kind of scary, at least to an old guy like me. 1984 anyone?? My appointment for the ID chip implant is next month....Last edited by rspears; 07-12-2012 at 03:11 PM.

along those same lines Roger.. I have so far "resisited" direct deposit for various reasons but along those same sentiments. My employer basically demands to pay me in that method, so they can save some pennies supposedly.., but I am fighting the good fight and for now the state of MASS is on my side! It's funny tho', as soon as I retire the feds only handle direct deposit payments and the state has been unable to circumvent this.
NAH, I'm not paranoid!

OK Mike, you've established yourself as one who needs to have this link. A friend sent it to me not too long ago, and the scary part is that while it's a "joke", we may not be too far from the concept, if not the realities. Turn up your sound, and be sure to watch the pointer on the screen as it is a key part of the "story". http://www.aclu.org/pizza/images/screen.swfRoger

It's been many years since I've seen that, I'd laugh but I know it can actually happen!
I just have a basic problem with the Government telling me that I have to have a bank account with checking if I want what I am entitled to!
It infuriates me when my employer expects the same thing! Why must I be forced into something I don't want??? This has nothing to do with whether or not I have an account with a bank or C.U. etc.. and then they want access to it! I just can't swallow that pill!
Next thing you know - we'll be forced to buy insurances!

That big Bro stuff is already a reality, was twenty years ago, and it scared the p*&^ out of me then. I lived in California and was traveling in Texas in a rented car, and got stopped for exceeding the speed limit on a state highway. It about knocked me down when the nice trooper addressed me by name when he walked up to the car; he knew all about me, and the car I was driving, and generally where I had been while in Texas; his data terminal told him so based on the plates on the car and my drivers license and credit card data. When my granddaughter was born in '03, the SSA sent a letter to her folks reminding them to get her registered for SS, and the state (CA) suggested she have a state ID card issued to her. Nevada did the same thing when she started school here. Now days, I am pretty cautious about what I say in any sort of venue that could be considered public, but I am sort of resigned to the idea that the state knows more about me than I do myself - they keep better records than I do, and I have never hidden my life, always paid my taxes and followed the rules, registered what I was required to; so they already have the goods on me.Rrumbler, Aka: Hey you, "Old School", Hairy, and other unsavory monickers.
Twistin' and bangin' on stuff for about sixty or so years; beat up and busted, but not entirely dead - yet.
