Bucket List Cross Country Trip
We are getting ready to drive our Studebaker across I-80 from Northern California to South Bend, Indiana. The Studebaker Drivers Club is holding their International Meet in South Bend this year. That is the home of Studebaker and the location of the National Museum. If you are near South Bend the week of Jul 30 - Aug 3 come on out to the Fair Grounds and check out about 1000 Studebakers. Then on the way back we will get to Reno just in time for Hot August Nights. Going to be a long trip, over 4000 miles. I have wanted to drive a classic car across country for a long time, nervous and excited all at the same time.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

What a neat trip,Pat..Would love to do the same one day..Its a must for us,me especially,to come back up to America and spend several weeks travelling, from one side to the other, and back..Would love to do it in a classic,,or hotrod,,but will probably do it in a regular car/wagon/van..And catch up with as many of you guys/gal(s),as possible..(sigh)..one day..Micah 6:8

I understand the apprehensive excitement, but the good thing is that there are "car people" all across the country, and they're generally quick to help one another in any times of real need. NSRA's book of "Fellow Pages" is a pretty good list that covers a lot of territory to at least get a guy started networking. My bet is that you cruise across & back without a hitch! Are you hooking up with any other Stude's on the way?Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Have a safe and trouble free trip Pat.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity converge.

Thanks for the encouragement. At the moment we are travelling as lone wolves. I do have the Fellow Pages and will be carrying a laptop to stay in touch. I have done everything I can think of to prepare so hopefully will be trouble free. I am a little concerned about wet weather, I have not driven this car in the rain very much. I know it won't melt and I have Rain-X and good wiper blades. If you see a red Studebaker cruising by be sure to honk and wave!

Good Luck to you, Pat. I'm sure you know that when you are in the company of Car Nuts/wrench spinners/and Hot Rodders then help is never far away. If you have a laptop and can update us as you make the 4000 mile trek then post up a story, howdy or a pic when you get time..

Pat, your Stude is already 'road tested' so this trip will be a piece of cake. Enjoy the journey, make lots of new friends and take lots of pics and one more request. Keep track of your fuel mileage and make these guys envious of the little LS powered Stude's modern running gear.
Be safe.

I'm envious Pat!
Sounds as though it will be fun!
That's a fair stretch of country to cross, are you going to stick to main roads or deviate through little out-of-the-way places?
We were intending to do a similar trip this coming August/September, but decided to postpone it for twelve months due to the bus being so close to being finished, and we'd have to be here to make decisions regarding the interior, painting etc.
But next year...USA here we come!
Roger, what is this book "NSRA's Fellow Pages" that you mentioned?
Does it give contacts to NSRA chapters across the country?
Is it only available to NSRA members?
We're both NSRA members, have been for many years, but NSRA New Zealand; and I'm pretty sure our NSRA has no ties/affiliations with yours.
But if the book is what I think it is, would it be possible to get my hands on a copy somehow?

I love road trips and can hardly wait until my '63 Nova is drivable so the wife and I can take a few long trips! This land of our is truly America the Beautiful and I always enjoy the trips - especially to the out-of-the-way places where life is a bit slower and people are willing to take the time to visit.
Drive safe and take tons of pictures. You'll get lots of "thumbs up" and people wanting to know about your awesome car!
