Other hobbies
If your like me, you just can't stick to one "thing" to keep yourself entertained..
My other interests include old engines / machines / tractors. So I thought I'd share with you some pictures of another "toy".
It's a 1947 throttle/governed motor, Fairbanks-Morse, Model Z, Style D. I got it over the winter and have been tinkering with it. It runs very good and now I just picked up an old saw from a friend that I'll hookup to the motor and take to shows and such.
Here's the motor first (before)

For the most part, if I'm not on the forums, working or doing somthing to 1 of my projects, I'm trying to get my lawn back in order as part of it was a field until last year. For the most part, this is what I use for that. It's a '68 Sears Suburban 12 garden tractor. I bought it off the orig owners son. Runs pretty good but does need tinkering from time to time.
I have a '93 John Deere LX188 to keep the lawn mowed also. That's neat because it's liquid cooled, but it's just a decent lawn tractor. Has no real charecter like the sears does. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Thanks for sharing your hobbies with me. The SS 12 is a great tractor, I play with IH Cub Cadets, I have 2 61 "original model"'s and 1 Model "73" and then the Model "169". For attachments for them I have mower decks, snowthrowers, front blades and a front mount generator as well as various trailers.. 8-) I also have a 1947 IH Model "A".. it's one of the tractors that I grew up on.
Charlie, that radio room is way to clean! 8-) ... Looks as nice as your "library" of auto manuals! HAH!!!
Billy, I remember your wall of posters. Those are cool! I used to have a lot of fun with guns and target shooting but lost interest over time. I replaced that "shooting" time with Lathe time! LOL..Last edited by 34_40; 07-29-2012 at 06:28 PM.

I really wouldn’t say I have any real hobbies other than my cars and trucks and now sharing that with the Grandkids.
I do have other interests however and they seem to parallel yours 34_40 “...old engines / machines / tractors.....” I grew up on a small family farm so I guess that is kind of a natural me. Restoring my Granddads and Dads tools last year was kind of a one shot deal and done because they were my Dads and Granddads.
That’s a beautiful little model Z, you did a great job on it. I also suspect the old Miller-Falls will probably see a fair amount of use too (a video would be nice ...hint hint )
That being said, in about 3 weeks I’ll be heading back to Il to visit family and am going to try very hard to acquire my Dads old Waterloo Boy Hit and Miss. Dad acquired and restored back in about 1966 or so, just because he wanted to hear one run again. It hasn’t run in at least 20 years and as I recall dad mentioned the iginitor went out on it. Anyway we’ll see how that goes.

Thanks for the compliment Mike. It means a lot coming from you! I've followed your retoration of the tools both here and on the stak and don't be surprised to see the same pics I put up here, over there. I just like old rusty metal! You and I (as well as some others here) share a similar upbringing and we all enjoy equipment and machines that we grew up with. I'll have to learn about videos and posting them.. I hope you can do the same with the Waterloo!

Well, as part of diversification... maybe in a couple years... just consider it... you might think of working on a motor bike.. or even a bicycle!
I know.. I know.. I'm just gettin' silly now!

Very nice Coyote, I used to do that as a kid, in the 60's but kind of lost intrest in it. I still have a couple of unbuilt ones sitting around that I might see if the grandkids are interested in at some point.

I don't know how silly that is, with the 2 beautiful granddaughters Dave has, if either one of them starts showing any interest in spending much time out in the shop, I wouldn't be too surprised to see a part of the garage set aside for some downsized projects like what has happened at my place.

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
