I was there about 1967-'68. It was a long time ago, but I remember a few things!
Saw the starter who rode his bike the length of the track on the back wheel... while standing on the seat... shifting gears!
Also watched the L.A.Dart... Mr.Norm's funny car... and even better, I finally got to see the famous Shake Rattle & Run!!!
Great times! {:-)

Great flick, thanks for putting it on here Charlie!!!! Never did make it to US 30 Dragway, we had our own version of it in Marion, SD called Thunder Valley, still in operation today! Fun to go there and think back to the mid 60's when it opened and all us gearheads brought our rides out there to see how this drag racing thing went!!!! We were all a bunch of Kart racers and circle burners, drag racing was only something we did down on the highway outside of town on Saturday night but this track thing was brand new to us!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Thanks for posting that Charlie, it takes me back to 59 and the season I flagged at our local strip, Dahio, outside of Dayton, Ohio. Rick, techinspector1, helped with, what else, the tech inspection and the timing trailer and we had a blast.Ken Thomas

I had to go back and watch that again! In '62-'74 I was going to the Indy nats... but didn't get to U.S.30 until the track was built up more.
I do remember those great commercials on WLS radio, which later said ...."Drag racing capital of Chicagoland!!!"
I also remember the great music (nice touch) with songs like " "Walk Don't Run"... and "Sleepwalk".
We had the best cars AND music then! {:-)
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
