Great show, and we, most of us, anyhow, lived a part of it. I found it interesting to note how much quicker the runs got over the span of years on the video from early years to later; we were starting to get quick, then.Rrumbler, Aka: Hey you, "Old School", Hairy, and other unsavory monickers.
Twistin' and bangin' on stuff for about sixty or so years; beat up and busted, but not entirely dead - yet.

Wow! That one brings back memories! Unfortunately for me, growing up in the sticks of SW Missouri my memories were of little MOKAN in Asbury, KS and hearing the radio ads for US 30.... Mike, here's another one I bookmarked some time back that has some really neat soundtrack music, including the "SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY..." radio ad. A little longer, but talk about memories!! Thanks for posting!!

That one was just put up by Charlie I think..... actually what I liked about the one I found was No Music! I found that distracting..
But thanks for that anyway. It must be a kind of reminiscing (sic?) day.. LOL..
Growing up in the northeast we had a track in Conn. and New Hampshire as the closest to me. And of course there were some attempts at the local industrial park and airport. The local constables would allow us to grudge race for a couple hours before running us off, they knew it would help us control the urge and help stop street racing (which it did for the most part!) but as the cars got faster and more powerful, they had to bring it to a close as there had been 2 crashes while they were on-site. The politicos had a fit!

I think it was Spring 1967 when I was on my way back to college and heard on the radio that "Sneaky" Pete Robinson had broken the seven second barrier for the first time, running a high six second time that day (something like 6.97??). I was excited, and told one of the older engineering guys in the dorm what I had heard and he confidently told me, "Now that's impossible! I've done calculations that prove that a car cannot possibly run a 1/4 mile quicker than seven seconds!!" He was eating crow later that night.....Roger

Roger, I too remember that and one of the mags had a article wondering how fast was fast enough?!?!? Where would all this madness end ?
Can you imagine a hot rodder wondering how fast was fast enough???!!!??? That's heresy! I just remember it as a "magical" time... just like those cars.. they were magical.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
