Nascar at atlanta
Fri, Sat, and Sunday night races for Trucks, Nationwide, and Cup.... Looks like the leftovers from the big storm will be drifting that way.... Hope they get the racing in, getting close to The Chase and a number of cars all wanting the last positions for the chase cars. Should be a very interesting Cup race, Trucks and Nationwide always race good at Atlanta, too!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Man, that rough old track surface is a real tire killer!!!!! Nationwide race should be a good one tonight, think the Cup race is going to have a bunch of crew chiefs pulling their hair out trying to get the car to handle and hook the way the driver's want it to.... 2nd practice is over, Biff was fast at 181 and change!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Yep, Yates is a master for certain! I was almost jumping up and down when Keselowski pulled up behind the Mustang and pushed!
Harvick knew it was hopeless and you could feel his frustration during the post-race interviews.. That last yellow cost him the race.
I was impressed with the Mustang when he could get alongside but they didn't have enough to complete the pass.
Harvick had'em all covered! Shame he came in 3rd!

Doug was the only one that could wring more Horsepressure out of the Ford's then Jack Roush, so Roush was smart enough to partner up with them!!!! No wonder both have been so successful over the years, if one guy is your biggest competition then quit fighting him and make him your partner!!!!!! Good, sound business practice, I'd say!
Back many moons ago, we had a guy running Ford powered sprinters, everybody laughed at him till he showed up with Yates power and Kinsler injection, even had a guy from Yate's shop with him for a few weeks to set up and tune the engine.... Did some serious butt kickin' for a year or so then got hurt bad in a nasty wreck and forced into retirement from Sprinters. He started powering some of the Ford drag cars after that and always had some big horse engines out there. I had one of his 408's with Yates heads in one of my little Maverick's for a couple seasons (don't ask what it cost), huge power for what it was!!!! Now, like most of us geezers, he's sold out and closed his shop, semi-retired, and just building toys for himself and his grandson...... His grandson has a cute little silver '67 Horse Coupe on the street now, guess it's one of the cars that should be at the top of your "Cars NOT to mess with" list!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Rousch & Yates... Hmmm.. I'd LOVE to have been in the room when them 2 first started talking about working together! Can you imagine the ideas that were being tossed around / tossed out!
After watching a race one afternoon, someone asked me, "what are they working on? They say they're working hard, but on what? I replied, "Everything! Every panel, every fastener, every friction surface, everything you see and more importantly, everything hidden!" It all adds up!
I think I mentioned this before, back in the late 70's a racing friend bought a short block from the Gapp & Rousch team, first thing we did after un-crating it was measure the torque to roll the crank over. We discovered it was less than half of anything we had! It was then we discovered things like the front seal had no numbers and it wasn't a double lip. Definately their own deal! We couldn't even find out where they got'em from! Same with the main bearing set, the centers were hollowed out into a concave shape, lower friction area / capture more oil..
I'm sure there were things in there that we never even noticed!
Now I need to go find the box of pictures, I think I have a picture or two of that car.... I just feel like reminiscing now! LOL...

Quick little story for you. Sometime back in the late '80s I was at an SAE meeting. Walking down one of the convention center halls there was one room where the attendees were piling up out the door............fulllllll meeting room. The presenter? Robert Yates, schooling all the fine college educated engineer guys on cylinder head design and how to wring more horsepower out of an engine. Pretty smart guy............Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
