i dont know why i hadnt thought of this before but.
my 1st project was a 63 kaiser/willys jeep. bone stock with a crawl ratio of 87-1 in compound first gear.
4 shift levers on the floor etc.
i took it to a few shows and always ended up next to some super expensive muscle car or something.
the last time i ended up next to a car that was roped off with BIG sings saying keep out! do not touch! blablabla
so i quickly made myself a sign that said PLEASE TOUCH! i had kids crawling all over that thing like it was a jungle jim. honkin the horn and generally having a good ol time.
at one point i went for a stroll and when i came back.
a little girl had her dollys buckled in and was taking them shopping.
it was the last word in cute.
btw boys
you get BIG brownie points from soccer moms that way.
a hot rod is whatever i decide it is.

Cool Jeep, Billy, my son is currently refurb'n his '70 CJ5 and should have it ready by opening weekend of rifle season. New wiring, new carb, new brakes, complete steering overhaul, custom console mounted gun rack and etc. When he finishes, it should be "almost" as nice as this one. Of course the rattle can camo paint job will still be there LOL..

Billy, I really like the old CJ, and letting the kids enjoy crawling around in/on it is great!
Here's a picture of my TJ in "winter dress" (hardtop on), with Bones ready to go for a ride. The Jeep Club that I'm in tries to have a late summer outing for one of the local homes for boys that have had a rough start in life. We load up one of their counselors and one or two boys in each Jeep and head into the hills, through the creek, up & down the cuts & ridges and generally let the boys get a taste of the outdoors with zero stress for an afternoon, coming back to a base camp for hot dogs & hamburgers before they head back to their group home. Good times like that often do as much for us as for the boys.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

And doing something like that Roger as a club or individually it is surprising what a influence that can have on a young fella. I believe we all need is somebody to show us love and to take them kids out and show them that others do care is something that will remain with them for awhile.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Lynda Barnes (Mrs lamin8er,) used to organise a run every year for the Intellectually Handicapped Children, (IHC,) they loved it!
(She's pretty good like that; very 'socially aware'.)
Dunno why she stopped; I don't think it was because of a lack of support from the local rodding fraternity.
Lynda? Robin?
Any thoughts on doing it again?

That stopped because of the ''inside''organizer had cancer, and eventually passed because of it,,but we did get fewer cars on the last one or two..
Lynda was saying,in one of the earlier days,a young blind girl was put in a T bucket,,and went for a cruise (about 20 miles each way,,and she screeched and yahooed with absolute delight..I hear it was hard to get her out of it.. and she made sure that she was in it again for the return trip..
I cant see it happening again,in less someone comes up with a cunning plan to get helpers..It would be good to do it again,though..Micah 6:8
If we aren't supposed to have midnight snacks,,,WHY is there a light in the refrigerator???

I do this just in a different way, on the fly problem solving and solution. I carry a good collection of tools. No jacks or stands, but enough wrenches and general sockets to do most side of the road repairs. I have run up on folks in gas stations or side of the road with problems.
The rest of the story obvious, some guy drives up in a coupe offering to help the broke down citizen, turns that frown up side down. They flip out at the seen that unfolds in front of their wide eyes. Sure they see the cars at the shows and on TV. Some citizen blowing down the road in one of those cars stopping to assist puts them over the top.
I have done some Harley's also, will not work on the foreign.. This is a benny I provide for the folks that buy and drive American iron. I enjoy doing this type of thing because it is totally unexpected by average Joe.I have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
