Pretty cool old tool
Well it's apple pressing season once again, and I stumbled across this video on youtube of a Reading 78 Apple Peeler , that's been around since 1878! This sucker is fast and cool for a hand operated peeler. Mind I don't peel them, unless they go in pies and such, this was just to neat to not share.

Yeah Steve I had a problem convincing the wife it was a kitchen appliance she should have.
On a side note, I really enjoy looking at the stuff from the era (late 1800s to the beginning of the WWII). It's not just the creativeness of the inventor and all the neat little cast iron pieces spinning around. The whole process to bring something like this to American homes is fascinating; from the mining of the iron ore, to smelting it to pig iron, running the pig iron thru a foundry to cast the parts, machining, hand assembly and finally transportation to the local hardware store or directly to the home thru catalog sales.

We have one of the peeler corer types that clamp to the table and sort of make apple rings in a spiral. Here's a vid of a similar one
