I noticed the paragraph at the bottom of the article where they are getting Bosch involved in some R&D on some components to extend the range.... Could be interesting if they could come up with something! Just a guess, but I'd think Audi has so much tied up in their racing program they're glad to farm some of the electric stuff out....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I find it interesting that four of the top six contenders for the 24 Hours at Le Mans are hybrids! - Spotlight on hybrids: 4 of top 6 Le Mans contenders are hybrid race cars | VentureBeat I was talking to my friend last weekend, and he mentioned how strange it is to have a top flight competitor come into the pits, and scream away with the only noise being the tires - all but silent! They're running two high torque electrics for driving force, plus a small V-8 racing engine to drive the generator to keep the batteries fresh. They attain their "hybrid" tag by recapturing energy during braking for turns, but through different means. At Le Mans 2012 a Toyota Denso, with no pre-race testing was doing well, and led much of the race before it was taken out while lapping a GT car - watch the video in the link above - it's an amazing crash, and one of the perils of Le Mans. Kind of interesting, but I still think I would miss the sounds of those racing engines singing through the gears....Last edited by rspears; 10-27-2012 at 12:37 PM.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

That was quite the controversy at LeMans last year, amateur in a GT car pulling in front of one of the prototype cars resulting in a big, ugly wreck!!!! Don't know that anything has been settled on it, or if the rules will change for next year or not.
Yeah, the hybrid technology is really getting pushed in Endurance racing, and some of the technology is creeping into Formula 1, also. And, as good as it's getting, they're doing it with private money and in-house engineers.....Hmmmm. Nothing like racing to bring out new and innovative R&D developments!!!! Maybe the government here in the US should just offer half a billion dollars to the first all electric car to win Indy, then watch the technology on electric cars growing by leaps and bounds, then transfer to production cars....Just like so many other racing innovations that have carried on into production cars.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
