moving day coming up?
now i've done it!
i've bought a new place in a small town, Hope,b.c. to be exact. now here comes the point of this ramble... a lifetime full of treasures\junk is going to move with me!
the place i'm moving to is 800 k.m. one way, so one of the first thing i did was buy a a really goog car trailer, 18' beaver tail. the first couple of trips will be just house hold
stuff. this will keep the little lady happy while i tram stuff too and fro!
the total cost for fuel and meals round trip hauling this way will be $600.00 . if i
do this with a rental van and trailer it is well in excess of $1200 dollars per trip!
since i am not bound by a must move by date i can take my time, total 7 trips if
i'm doing this right, i'm sorry a real man just can't sell all his toys. it might made me a little nuts trying to off load all my stuff but so be it.
the only thing thats bugging me a little is leaving all the hotrodding buddies here and
finding new one that are as afflicted with this horrible hotrodding ailment! is there a
place like a help line for affected hotrodders? i'll start a travel blog on this subject
when i make my first trip. will have to come up with some backgroung music for the roadtrips... will the theme from the beverly hillbillies work? any ideas?Last edited by DONNIE G; 10-28-2012 at 08:01 PM. Reason: poor spelling

Forget it, I hate moving; you're on your own.
I just moved from CO to GA, brought my baby, her Taurus, and a mountain of her crap. MY crap fit in two tough boxes.
Moral of the story:
Good luck with the move.
BTW, I paid about $600 in fuel..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

I'm moving myself in a few months to NJ.. only about 200 miles (320 kms). Can't wait to move but certainly not looking forward to the move itself. I've got 12 years of 3 car projects worth of stuff to move.
Good luck.

Sounds like a a lot of loading, driving, and unloading... But you're right Donnie, how could a guy leave his stuff behind? Gonna need it someday, for sure! Hadn't hear much from you lately, what else you been up to??Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

We had planned on moving to Virginia from Upstate NY - 750 miles - and had made 8 trips house hunting. Found the right house, wrong location and vice versa many times. OK - spring ahead a 18 months. For several reasons that have come up, we aren't. I calculated that it would take a pro mover one trip and me at least 4 additional just to bring a lifetime of treasures. The big RV, my '31, the tractor, my two rooms of shop equipment, car and wood. And this was after I had done several swap meets selling bits and pieces I knew I would never use.
BUT - As Roger said above, just give us a call!! We can help() with your anxieties or at least give you a direction where help can be found
Good luck!!Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

just gearing up for retirement! after 37 years working in the mines its time!
we wanted a place with lots of summer driving, with a lot milder winters. this seems to be the place. although it rains quite a bit, winters are very mild.
i'm not too worried about the move as such, just how much stuff do i take with me or do i lighten the loads by dropping a few of the toys!
the wife wants all of my toys down there, after all she does'nt want me just lounging arround doing nothing but salmon
fishing on the fraser river or driving around looking for donut shops!

Drop a few of the toys!!!!!What a horrendous thought!!!! Heck, if you're retiring anyway, what's a couple more trips to take it all????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

A man was watching his wife as she prepared to fry sausages in a pan. He noticed that before placing the sausages in the pan, she always cut off both ends, threw them away, and cooked only the middle...
