Anyone heard from TOW'D?
A small article appeared in our local paper the other day saying that there had been a 7.7 earthquake off the coast of Nova Scotia and tsunamis were expected.
That's where Hank Winning lives, Bella Coolla.
So it's a bit of a concern; 7.7 is a big 'quake.
I've e-mailed him, but got no reply.
Has anyone heard anything?

You are partially right in that Bella Coolla, BC is very near the quake zone. However, the quake was near the Haida Gwaii islands, just off the coast of British Columbia at the extreme western (Pacific) coast of Canada. Nova Scotia is at the opposite side of the country on the Atlantic Coast, about 3000 miles (4500K) away.
I hope he is OK too.

Hank was last on here 10/17 from his profile, which also confirms his location as Bella Coola, BC, which is at least 60 miles inland from the coast, at the headwaters of a good sized inlet from the sea. Reports were that they felt the quake, which only lasted three to four seconds, but had no damage in the immediate area. I believe that the tsunami alert was for more distant islands and coastal areas, including Hawaii, and it passed with only very minor surges watched from the piers & beaches, according to news reports. Maybe Hank will see this and give us an accurate report from the resident's perspective!Roger

Thanks for that; the report in the paper was only a few lines long, and very vague.
Just enough to raise concern.
And when he didn't reply to my e-mail...

Dunno why I wrote Nova Scotia...I fully intended to write British Columbia...senile decay I guess!
But I've just had an e-mail from Hank, (his pooter has been awol.) and they're all okay; although re reckoned they were rattled around pretty hard for a minute or so.
But the good news is that they're alright, and he made no mention of damage.
All good.
