Good Guys MW Nationals Is No More
Just learned today that for 2013 Good Guys has dropped the MidWest Nationals, held over the Labor Day Weekend in Kansas City from their slate of events. Apparently all of the hype this year about the new arrangement outside of the speedway proper being more desirable, better for participants, better for fans, etc, etc, was just so much marketing talk, and the people at Good Guys pulled the plug on the event for the future. I'm sorry to see it go, as it was a good show that drew people from a wide area.Roger

Roger, did they at least attempt at replacing it?

No, it appears that they were not happy with the new arrangement at the speedway, or perhaps that the speedway initiated a massive construction project which affected the GoodGuys format and let them know after the fact. Who knows what really happened, but their 2013 schedule is posted, and KC is not an event any longer.Roger

Got an e-mail from them, and then today a letter in the mail to previous registrants saying that they were unable to come to agreement with the KS Speedway management regarding 2013 and future dates. No details given, but I did send them a note offering to assemble a small group of GG members to scout out potential sites in the metro area for 2014 and beyond if it would help.
Yes, Des Moines over the July 4th weekend is a great show 3+ hours north on I35, and I heard yesterday that the Loveland show is a good venue, too, but it's more like 12 hours west on I70. The big one is in Columbus, OH this year, and it follows Des Moines by a week, so a trooper would hit Des Moines, then leave there Monday for a leisurely drive across to Columbus...Roger

Their schedule has a hole at the start of September....they either have a problem with the location in KC and had to cancel OR they have something larger in the wings and are waiting to announce such. Labor day is too big a money-maker for them to resist doing something.

It's the Speedway. Over the summer they did a total renovation of the infield, adding a road course track over by the back straight, and that was one of the major parking areas for Good Guys. The construction was nearly done by Labor Day, but the Good Guys Event moved out of the infield, to the area out front where they stage all of the FanWalk events for race weekend, and they put up some new fencing to segregate the area for Good Guys, along with designating a larger area for the Auto Cross. They did away with all of the track laps, and vendors were either up under the grandstands, or in their trailers - no indoor vendor areas which caused problems when it rained Friday and Saturday.
I agree, they will fill the hole for 2014, but it was apparently too late to make their 2013 Event Schedule, which is already published and accepting advance registrations. I look for a new location in 2014, either in the KC metro, or moved to some other place in the region.Roger

A Labor Day show in Florida would be a great idea. While most of the country is having their 'last hurrah' of the summer that weekend, those of us in central Florida are still going strong with beautiful weather. Looking at the GG schedule, they have 11 events in the western states and only 5 east of the Mississippi, we need more on this side of the US.

Heck, here in Arizona, Labor Day is celebrated as "only 2 more months until we're under 100 degrees"
We do our spring planting in October.
