Divine Guidance!
Went out in the garage last night and decided to make a quick run with the '33 to check a minor tweak I had made to my injection map at cruise conditions, leaning it out just a hair to see if it improves mileage. It cranked a bit longer than I liked, so I did a quick check of the coolant temp and jumped out to go get the laptop to play with the crank fuel, again.... Came back out to find that I had failed to set the brake , and it had rolled out of the garage, coming to a stop firmly against the basketball goal post Almost afraid to look, I found that the body missed the pole by 3", and the drivers rear tire was centered on the pole. Can't say that God steered it any, as it went pretty well straight, but it surely worked out to my advantage

LOL! Sounds a little like a Carrie Underwood song....
So glad it was the tire that hit the pole!!
One time, a long time ago, I was putting gas in my '37. While I was inside paying, I looked out and saw the car rolling out into oncoming traffic!! Fortunately, it didn't have time to build up too much speed and an oncoming driver slowed enough that the front bumpers just kissed! My bumper flexed just enough to crack the chrome plating but I was just thankful it didn't destroy the whole front end or hurt anyone!! Needless to say, my shifter got some much needed adjustment after that....."It is not much good thinking of a thing unless you think it out." - H.G. Wells

Yeah, I considered myself very fortunate to say the least.
A friend collects '50's Chevy's, and had a newly acquired '59 sedan beside his garage. Similar event, thought the brake was set, came back to find it had rolled down the hill, right at a neighbors garage but veered a bit because of the uneven terrain and centered on a big cedar tree beside the building. No damage to the garage, but that '59 wrapped around that tree, pushing the bumper & hood in more than a foot! Totaled out his front clip, all for an oversight with the brake. Of course he had his wife to blame, since she was rushing him to hurry to get to a kid's ball game....Roger

Roger, down here in Tejas we would say that you "got a flocky" (aka got off lucky)
Note to yourself: set parking brake next time !.

Hand of God or dumb luck you did well there Roger.
Like others I have my tale of the brake fail too. Thirty some years ago I'd gone to a buddies house in my '51 Hornet coupe. He lived on a flag lot with a moderately long driveway that opened to a large parking area in front of his garage/shop. I parked the Hudson at the back edge straight in from the driveway, the garage being off to the right. Later we took off in his car for a couple hours. Upon returning, as we drove down his driveway I had a moment of panic....................my car was gone! As happens, thoughts race through the mind faster than I could type them out here. But I blurted out something like, "Someone stole my car!!"
As we parked it became clear that the car wasn't stolen at all. Off the edge of the parking pad his yard gently sloped down a 4-5 foot drop, at the bottom of which he had his firewood shed. Since it was summer, he only had wood stacked along the sides. The open center was barely wide enough that the car miraculously rolled down nearly exactly between the two rows of firewood...............about 3 inches of clearance on each side. Couldn't have parked it that well centered on purpose! Though I had set the parking brake, for whatever reason it let go (one of those 1/4 turn to release type, probably I'd been sloppy about setting it square). The relief from seeing no damage was especially high as I'd just recently spent considerable time and effort repainting the car a gorgeous maroon. Probably the dumbest of dumb luck ever in my life.............Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
