Dave I don't think you'll go wrong with either camera, both are good brands.
Jerry, yes all these years I never noticed those lines until I started taking pictures of the moon. I've noticed the same thing on images others have captured from other parts of the world so I guess I just wasn't paying attention before."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

I found an interesting Video Camera with an unbelievable lens attached at Best Buy. The brand is Panasonic pv-dv953, kind of so so brand at first blush ................ right?
Well check this out the lens is a Leica anyone into camers knows that is top dollar stuff.
I remember looking at a boat load of video cameras and picked up this Panasonic, spotted the name on lens and it went right out the door with me.
Cannot beat the Nikon for stoutness they can be dropped and will kleep on shooting. Cannon is also a nice product that takes good shots, my two cents..
As to SLR digital, if one has a need for different lenes, big stuff 200 mm type that's the way to go. The digital by itself does a nice job with the digital zoom for most applications. All the rest of the functions timed exposures, speed and light adjustments are there as well as point and pull the trigger.
I do miss the feed back that the shutter, mirror and auto film advance would give on those old film processors. I also really like a huge memory card and having the ability do see the shots at the end of the day.I have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it

Dave,
One thing I noticed is that the Canon's are listed as being weather resistant, meaning that you don't have to panic with the first few rain drops. Many others, including the comparable Nikon's, are dust resistant.Roger

Got a Nikon d50 workhorse digital camera, that uses all the old slr 35 mm film camera lens, use a Tamron 18-200mm lens(with polarizer filter) for most shots these days. It's a little slow in low light, but packing one lens around makes up for the other inconviences. Both were purchased used on EBAY and have performed flawlessly. The old Nikon really does a great job for the total cost for both around 550.00. I've had the lens for about a year, and the camera for maybe 5? Nikon does a great job. Most of my friends are using Canons that are newer and faster, and they take great photos, I just like my old Nikon!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Set the new triigertrap up tonight (or I should say Jeff did). Pretty cool. control the camera from the iPad. There's a bunch more apps to download. You can control the shutter dozens of different ways. Cool time exposure & time lapes features. Now I just need the time to play.

Nice option not seen before who makes that ? A funny old memory, I can remember my old girl friends always remarking how my stereo had so many wires and looked junky. 40 some years later look at us now, the computers, game things, surround sound, loads of unnecessary car electronics, now the cameras we really have one hell of a mess on our hands.
Once thought that aircraft were a maze of wires, now everything is .... Really got to LYAO at this stuff, everything is a hairball. Keep it simple stupid is really becoming a tuff thing to do.
I am amazed we can even keep track of how to wire the darn things much less use all the functions. If you put some of this stuff aside, drag it out a few months later you must bone up on how the thing works. Which BTW is a great reason to save the manuals. I 'll says this flying saucers are really going to be a pain to have around. ...... Got to love it!! Well off to the LWS for some filler rod first tig lesson today...
Cheers..I have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it

Look for the unit that loads on an iPhone or Android. https://triggertrap.com/
I broke the old trigger I use for time exposures & this was about the same cost, so I thought I'd try it. One of the many neat features....you can change the shutter time of a time lapes sequence. It also has a GPS function to take pictures every so many feet rather than by time. Changing the shutter speed is as simple as moving a slider on the screen. NOt sure how long it lasts but the TriggerTrap app downloaded for free yesterday."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.
