Thread: Tragic Event in The USA.

Tragic Event in The USA.
On our news this morning the lead story is about the tragedy that has unfolded in America with 27 people dead after another shooting, and sadly, mostly children. So please explain to me why or how most here regard themselves as Christians, most defend their right to own arms ? I realize that it is far to late to completely wipe out all the privately owned guns and sadly there is a criminal element who will never give up their arms, but , heck, how do you stop this unnecessary killing of people and children ?? Jesus last commandant was to Love one another and it appears that some regard that to be only true on Sundays. My heart and Prays go out to the families of those taken so tragically.
I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

RIGHT NOW this is about those who just died, not who has or does not have a right to bear arms..AGAIN, if you cannot understand this, then you really are selfish and self centered.
Sadness, empathy and prayers are all that is really appropriate right now and all that will be tolerated.
All other posts have been removed.
Enough said.Instead of being part of the problem, be part of a successful solution.

I'm sure not happy with that type of "editing" but it is what it is and I'm sure the intent was honorable..

First off not picking on the poster just going to ask a question>
"Explain to me why or how most here regard themselves as Christians, most defend their right to own arms ? I realize that it is far to late to completely wipe out all the privately owned guns and sadly there is a criminal element who will never give up their arms, but , heck, how do you stop this unnecessary killing of people and children ?? Jesus last commandant was to Love one another and it appears that some regard that to be only true on Sundays."
"RIGHT NOW this is about those who just died" How does this fit considering the context of the above statement, 75% of which is a political statement?
If the answers an opinions of the replies do not fit the scope or tolerance of this forum, then to be truly fair, if that's the game the whole thread needs to go.
I predict this post will be deleted. I am going to make a point about bashing us evil Christians.
It seems that bashing Christians is acceptable here but, free flow of ideas and opinions not shared by moderators is not, just a casual observation. I will say what I think, you want to ban me so be it no sweat off my nads.I have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it

there simply are topics that need not be dicussed in this type of forum . " automotive " .. it will lead to nuthin but dissention among members .. if bill will allow then i`m sure someone can open a thread about religion or politics with the notion that posters enter at their own risk .. i wont take part though ...iv`e used up all my sick days at work .. can i call in dead ?

I was away most of yesterday and into the night, so I did not see the two pages of replies to Whip's post, and I missed most of the initial reporting on the tragedy in Connecticut. It seems to me that if the replies to a post are deemed "unacceptable" or "improper", then it only makes sense that the original post is "improper" and should be deleted, too. It does not seem fair to me to say that a position statement, or in this case a series of position questions, i.e. "How can you....." is OK, but responses to those questions are not. If we're going to have censorship then censor the thread, leave the title, and replace post #1 with what has now become post #2 written in the attention grabbing red bold text and delete all other posts. Then lock the thread, declaring the topic disallowed. And for the record, I'm not saying that Whip was wrong to post his questions & feelings, but I also don't see the need for the topic to be debated here. Just my $0.02.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

I guess I know now my opinion or beliefs mean nothing here and will be censored. so I guess I should be like a lot of others and just move on. the original post I'm sure was intended for the best. Delete all my post and ban me if you like it makes not difference to me. the post was NOT asking for prayers it asked "So please explain to me why or how most here regard themselves as Christians, most defend their right to own arms ?"
I am a Christian and do not just re guard myself as one. I have and I am still praying for the family's and the little angel's that were taken from us.
May God be with us all

It has nothing to do with censorship and everything to do with common sense. The original post above, while bordering on one of a strictly religious tone, was done out of sheer grief and outrage as to the event that occurred in CT yesterday, Where I drew the line (as 75% of the other moderators on the sites I am a member of) was making the thread into a pro/against gun control topic, using (yes using because those both for and opposed to gun control can be self centered zealots at times) this horrible event as fuel for their fires.
Again, this is about the deaths that occurred, nothing more, nothing less. You want the thread locked, so be it. But be warned, per the terms of use you have all agreed to when you signed up for an account on these forums (better check all of the others you belong to as well), there will be no discussion of religion and or gun control here.

Wow..
I have certainly enjoyed this forum as there are a lot of great (and from time-to-time "passionate") people here. I have always thought that if I find a post "offensive" I wouldn't respond. As such I find the actions taken to remove posts in this thread are a bit more that I want to accept. This will in all likelihood be my last post. I will miss participating here.

And I hope this doesn't come to pass!
You are without question an articulate, well spoken and thoughtful person who clearly cares for all our fellow hot rodders with your clear, concise and always accurate postings.
If you do leave here, a large void will be felt in all our lives. I hope you change your mind!

Glenn - I too am not happy with what is happening and too am considering the same. Yes, I had my snit last summer and just decided to back out for a while, but it wasn't for the same kind reason. I do agree with Bill in that it is an automotive forum BUT those posts were posted in the Lounge where the subject is "Shoot the breeze about all the non Hot Rod stuff..." which, Bill, puts you in the position of dictating what we can and can not say. What was posted, and I believe I was able to read it all before you deleted it, was in no way offensive to me nor from what I could see, anyone else. It may not have been everything I or others agree with and much the same as most of the posts on the political thread that we wanted to keep going at least through Jan 20/inauguration day . At this point, Brent may as well pull the plug or better yet, sell Club Hot Rod to someone who will build it back towards its glory days not too long ago. The site has lost too many members over the past couple of years to be a viable place for people to go to discuss cars and vent and also, bring in new folks with much of the same interests. Glenn is potentially another loss - a valuable asset among the dwindling number of regulars who make up a now very small group of folks that just hang in here.
Yes, the Newtown, CT. tragedy is a horrible event. I'm not really much of a religious person, but I did say a prayer for the victims. The media, politicians and entertainment freaks are screaming. The underlying CAUSES of these terrible events need to be considered - but as history has pointed out, wont be.Last edited by IC2; 12-16-2012 at 05:54 AM.

glenn , i wish you well . i understand your feelings about the censorship that has become all to apparent here as of late. had the entire thread been deleted it would not have been a big deal but the original post was left . which in my opinion questioned my belief in god and my 2nd amendment rights. i too found it a little offensive although i do not believe whiplash intended it to be. but i found the censorship and gestapo tactics even more offensive. yes this is a car forum but we are grown men with the ability to discuss these most important issues without a keeper. first and foremost i do not believe gun control should ever be brought up at a time of tragedy . we should weep for the children instead of using them for a soap box to further ones agenda . which will overshadow the children in just days by the sick and twisted media and politicians .
i talk with many of you on other sites so we will continue to do so . otherwise i'm sure none of us will be missed . this is not the same site i joined years ago .

I am pretty sure that all posts and comments made above (including the ones that were removed) were sincere and meant with good intentions to state an opinion and not to flame anyone. It would sure be a sad thing to lose good members participation over a slight misunderstanding or even disagreement. We are all "adults" and this ain't our first Rodeo so before you check out please give it some thought.
Wishing everyone Peace in their choices and decisions,
