"Bent" snow
We have a 'tin' roof over our back porch but at a very low angle - something like 3/12 - so in the winter when we have some warm days, the snow will slide a bit. When it slides, it 'bends' over the edge before it breaks off and comes crashing down on the stunted plants below. This is about average before it breaks off, though have seen it a bit further along if it gets real cold after a warm day. Yes, it does make a big thud when it hits

That snow is from about a foot compacted down to about 4-6 inches. We have had it over a foot thick from about 2 feet compacted curling like that. You DO NOT want to walk under that when it comes down - ever . That is unless you want to become a human fence post driven into the ground. Sometimes I can break it off but it really is surprisingly strong until 'just at that point' of ready to goDave W

We had the same thing, only it tried to peel all the gutters off the buildings. Installed some snow guards and now they hold the snow up there until it melts away. You see them on the roof here, holds the snow at 10/12 pitch just fine...
