FOR SALE --- overused and abused phrases we all hate!
While doing my daily perusal of the Racing Junk ads today and ran across some of the "trigger" phrases that over the years I've learned really mean, "Ignore this Ad!".... Here's some of mine, I'm sure you guys can add more.
Rust Free--We're supposed to believe that the car has absolutely no rust when in all actuality it's got floorboards like a Fred Flintstone car and the frame rails resemble Swiss Cheese. But the seller is not going to charge extra for the rust!!!!
Barn Find--This car has spent the last couple weeks in somebody's shed.
Badazz Engine--The engine is bone stock but has a Thumper Cam.
Original Mileage--It was the original miles on the junkyard car I got the speedometer from.
Survivor--This thing is so bad that nobody has been willing to spend any time or money on it over the years, so everything on and in it is junk.
Show Quality--Got an Honorable Mention Trophy for "most potential" at a recent get-together in the Wal Mart parking lot.
9 Second Street Machine--True statement, but it was on the 1/8 mile track.
Numbers Matching--The Vin number on the dashboard and the title are the same.
Pristine Interior--I just put 3 coats of Armor All on the dash, seats, and steering wheel, and it rained last week so the windows look pretty good too.
There's a lot more that tell me to not think seriously about this car, curious what else other's watch for when going through the ads.......???????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Learning must be difficult for those who already know it all!!!!

It is funny you mention barn find. I have a 40 Nash that I have in a barn on one of my parishioners farm. When somebody asks what I have, I mention the 3 cars that I have at home and then I mention the Nash by telling them it is the only one gaining value because once I pull it out of the barn, then it will instantly be worth $10,000 because that seems to be the going rate of barn finds.
The one claim that tends to make me question the car is when it is "rare". I enjoy AMC and there are way too many people who claim that AMC cars are rare, and to a degree, I agree with that. But then they believe that their "rare" car is worth way more than what is reasonable.Last edited by pastor bubba; 03-14-2013 at 09:18 PM.

Some time back my sister advertised her wee car for sale:
"One lady owner/driver from new. Used primarily for grocery shopping and transport to Chapel on Sunday."
She got no replies.
When she told me what she'd written I wobbled my eyes and said: "Did you honestly expect any?"

Fresh rebuild. (means rings and bearings). It's a flat tappet cam motor and the "builder" neglects to tell you that he mixed up the tappets.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

"Fresh rebuild"
Yeah, my buddy who runs a machine shop got one of those Craigslist specials in a few weeks ago. The ciustomers comment was "how could a fresh rebuild have so much crud under that new paint?"I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....
