Maybe its just that Im new but does each and every post have to go through a Mod before it's posted? Makes it kind of hard to converse with others knowing it will be a day or so before they will even see the post? Or is this one of the issues that is being worked on? At first I thought it was just for posting up new threads but now I get the "will be posted after the mod" window pop up about half the time? Weird Stuff going on here...

We have an enormous amount of spam that gets posted to the forum on a daily basis, since there is only two or three of us (unpaid volunteers) taking care of these intrusions, and we do have full time jobs and family life afterwards, we have set up certain filters. Unfortunately, newbies are caught up in them, again more as a filter rule. Yet the lag time is usually less than 2-12 hours, so in the bigger scheme of things, it is not too much of an inconvenience until you build up enough posts to no longer need moderators assistance .

Ive tried to respond 3 times to this thread with some constructive info but it has deleted my response 3 times. Thought I would give it one more try just to see if this appears or not?

I too have a forum and there are several V Bulletin programs that are available through their web page to help sift out spammers. My forum is set up with the simple machines format and I activated one of these programs about 5 months ago. It basically looks the IP address over and determines if it has ever been a spammer or not. If so it puts it on a list. if its not sure it adds it to the list for your review and authorization or denial. If it is a good IP address it allows it to continue. Nice thing about this program is you can check a single list daily and delete 200 spammers at a time. Takes about 5 minutes a day now to clean out the list. It really just block out spammer registrations and recognizes authorized members. . I was looking at switching to V Bulletin and checked into the program so I know they have it as well. Its been some time ago and the name of their program escapes me. This is the page to the simple machine program:
http://www.simplemachines.org/commun...topic=452752.0 O get ZERO spam through this system and well worth the effort to get it.

I know how trying it can be and how much time it can suck up keeping a forum up and running smoothly. I'll just hang out and wait for things to get better. Thanks again for the reply.

And there you are! As the mods explaned above, due to the volume of spam recieved there is a "grace period" where you're posts have to get approved by them. Once they see you are "genuine", they'll turn you lose! Bear with them / us, we know it can be a bit annoying at times. But it's to protect us all.

Simple machine software would be wonderful. Are you going to recompile the roughly 200+ Terrabytes of threads and such associated with this long running forum? Are you going to then guarantee that nothing will happen to that data during the compile process? What about the data stream and the bandwidth (much more than you can imagine, X3+ other forums all running on the same system and platform)

As for your contention of that this is your third time to try and add a response, I show nothing within the moderation que at all. Might I suggest you clean out your browser and system cache, update your java and adobe software, and repatch your local system. Then reboot and check for further updates again. This problem may or may not be related to this forum and the software it is currently running on. Do what I suggest, and we'll find out.

Also, try to refrain from adding links in your posts for a while and see what transpires.

It looks like there many problems with the site software. I have ignored most of the "no permission" messages but now my photo file is full and I am unable to add any new pictures. The "advanced features" page says the photos will be deleted after one hour but many of my old pictures are still there and I am unable to load any new pictures. Now I get a black square with a line running across the middle but no new pictures can be added.
