    FantomWorks

I had high hopes for this series, but it seems to be just more drama and people gabbing into the camera.

Ya, I haven't seen it, but I think I know what your'e talking about.

I would so rather watch some fabrication, than listen to a couple idiots yell about the problems.

It seems like the owners deliberately accept these unreasonable deadlines just to cause drama. If the employees just went home at five, then the deadline would pass, and after a couple of pissed customers, the owner would stop accepting the deadlines.

But then you would't have the drama, and I guess that's what sells.

Not in my book. "Drama" is stupid. That's what killed the OC Chopper show. Just shows how well these guys CAN'T manage their shops... To me, this stuff is embarassing, to the shop AND the owners. If that is what it takes to make a "show" forget it. The thing is, these guys know EXACTLY how long it takes to fab something. If they can't do it without the BS then I won't watch it... I am VERY interested in the fab side of it and that is all I want or need to see...

To me that's a reflection on the stupidity of the general population and the fact they have been inundated by the "drama" on the reality shows.

These drama shows are one of the factors that has caused me to stop doing much for others----------

Example---doing a engine rebuild on a Boss 351 1971 Mustang----guy has all new bolts---engine is already + 030 and actually was at .033? now at .0338---He says he dosen't drive it, only shows, so leaving the bores there and re using his pistons( my suggestion) as that amount of clearance will be fine--won't be able to hear it over valve train noise anyway----But--------he doesn't know the finish for the intake----raw aluminum or painted/coated???? It looks like a clear coating on it now--will need a hopper of new beads for my blast cabinet--next, he doesn't know what ignition system---has electronic with double vacume canister, I have a correct date dual point centrifugal that I am willing to give him as he is a friend down the road a couple miles---but he doesn't know---guess he will find out when he gets judged!!!!!!!1

Anyway, I got to do rear brakes on Robins car and its hot today----would rather be in the a/c garage instead of driveway------

Never enjoyed watching them throw together a bike untested at the last minute and roll it out to the customer. If I was shelling out 50k for a chopper, I'd want it broken in, tested, and ready with no flaws or mistakes from a rush job. Then again I wouldn't buy a chopper, with the huge rake, little seat and ape hangers that is about as practical or comfortable to ride, as sitting on a metal snowcone, on a 4x4 trail. I have a friend who has a "cool" looking chopper he built. When ever we want to go for a ride, he bails, as the fatigue of more than a bar hop is too much and uncomfortable for him. Not my cup of tea!

I stopped watching them all. Bikes and cars.

It seems they use the drama, costs, short deadlines and tempers, tool throwing, and much more silliness to sell these series to immature amateur enthusiasts... all for ratings to sell advertising time.

It became obvious a while back that these are not meant for hardcore, no-nonsense car buffs. We want to know why they chose the parts or concepts they did? How things are done to produce a desired result? How to maximize our dollars? How to avoid future problems or increase the long-term use of the vehicle?

Nuff said. I'll depend on you guys to tell me when there is a "serious" show on. I won't even sacrifice 10 minutes to give them a chance at my time any more.

It seems all the reality shows are headed this way. Gold Rush -How not to make money, Deadliest Catch- 5 idiots who may cause you to die, American Choppers - Roidders and anger management, how not to build a bike, the list goes on

I like to watch the Alaska Frontier shows and Gold Rush because I'm real interested in the out doors and I know I'll never try the gold mining operation. But, I can't fathom how much money and time they waste on Gold Rush. Deadliest Catch, I like to watch it because I can't find myself to ever be in their situations. Most of these auto related shows I watch just to watch. It beats reality shows after working all day!

I have watched/tried to watch my share of that garbage,,and only went back to it if I felt I needed to punish myself..
I remember one ''rush job'' that was in Coddingtons series,,a pro street style 63 Vette,,that had to be out in 6 weeks..Yeah,right..It could be seen in the background of at least 4 other ''rush jobs''over the next few months..
Had a gutsful of the attitudes,etc..Never again..

I actually was a US observer of joint venture foreign fisheries in Alaska, based out of Dutch Harbor(initially why I watched this show). I can tell you that NOAA and the US coast guard changed fishing rules for crab seasons because of the idiots who risked not only there own lives, but that of the rescue crews doing stupid things for this Deadliest Catch series. The show responded but offering cash incentives for the largest catch brought in, just to add drama. Gold rush also was entertaining initially because I felt how cool to try that, and felt hopeful for the guys doing it, but after three seasons of poor financial management by the Hoffman crew, I just had to let that one go too!
Ultimately it's just ratings and entertainment, vs. sound judgement and modeling of a business.

One thing that reallt ticks me off, is that Discovery never replays the season finale of Gold Rush that I have seen. Of course, I always watch the rerun the next week because they quit playing it twice the same night. So I never saw how they ended up this season.
