NASCAR news
Well, that time of the season in NASCAR----at the end of the season Montoya is gone from Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing in the #42 car, sounds like Kyle Larson could be getting the ride!!!!! The kid has talent, but do you think he's ready for the big show????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I like the concept that each driver is an independent contractor instead of belonging to some driver's organization like baseball or football. It is so much easier for a hot driver to negotiate OR a team to upgrade. I also like the new guys to have a chance....it's like other sports, some guys come up and hit a home run right away, some have to get some miles on their experience log, and some never catch on.....but fresh faces butting heads with the pros is great.... It's also neat that drivers like Jeff Gordon are now seasoned pros....wasnt that long ago that they were the fresh meat getting banged by the old guys.

Yep, silly season. Supply, demand, sponsor demands..............and the rest of the drama mill............
I suspect we're sort of in the middle of the evolution of sponsor dynamic. The digital age is going to continue to to impact how advertising dollars get allocated. The old notion of being out in front "of the most eyes" is slowly losing out to "targeted marketing" as ads get aimed at whatever the last thing someone looked up on Google or the like.
The sale of Dupont might end the already diminished frequency on Gordon's car. Newman is knocking on doors because he apparently doesn't appeal to any significant sponsor. Force is probably hustling his marketing butt working to figure out the best replacement for Ford in his future............is he the next Toyota conquest? Then who gets dumped? Pedregon? It ain't easy out there........Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity converge.

Friend of mine is a World of Outlaws crew chief....We were talking when he was in town awhile back, sez the battle for sponsorship off the track is even more intense then the battle for wins on the track!!!!
Uncle Bob makes some very astute observations here! I look to see a lot of changes during the off season in all forms of racing. Money is very tight, probably a lot of teams won't be back next season!!! With the cost of parts, cars, travel, and crew expenses getting higher and traditional sponsorship waning, the innovative teams will be the one's finding the new $$$$$ to race with.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Larson kids ready. Probably a learning curve on pit stops but if I was an owner, he'd already be under contract.

I remember it was a big thing to get free oil and spark plugs--next level was enough oil for my truck, the road to free tires was even being able to buy new ones for the race, then the stage where they would let you know by the end of the day if they would charge you and eventually the level where they would do tires for truck and trailer----------I even lived in apartment owned by Shelby(but had nothing to do with sponsership-I was just a renter)
Lots of stuff available free wouldn't/didn't work so you had to be careful about you made agreements for.
Todays dragracing/ESPN thingie isn't working, the multicar teams aren't working, and the format of all these national races to a countdown??????????
Takes 3 semi trailers per car in the pits??????????

Got to agree, Howard!!! The pavement boys are finally starting to learn that nothing teaches car control better then racin' on the dirt!!!!!
Another interesting change for next year is going to be Harvick in a Stewart-Haas car!!! Newman is a good racer, but Harvick IMO is a better racer, and ready to prove it with that Hendricks power!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Larson is good but I am unsure if he is ready for a full-time CUP ride. I believe another year in Nationwide would be better, but already under contract for a CUP team for the year after that. Dont know if that would even be possible.
Of course I think that Danica shoud have spent a couple of more years full-time in Nationwide before going to cup. Sponsership would never have let that happen. Although I here that GO-DADDY is re-thinking sponsership in racing.
I do believe though that if Larson goes to CUP next year, he will outperform Danica right from the start.Bug

Bug, Kyle Larson is a kid that's on my radar screen just like Jeff Gordon was back in 1990-1991 when I saw him racing sprint cars. IMO, Larson will be a much better racer than Danica will ever be! If I'm not mistaken, Larson won in his very first start in a Nascar truck race, that takes talent and determination, he's going to be fun to watch. Again IMO, Danica is in it for a paycheck, she is a marketing tool, she will never win a Cup race on her abilities, IF she ever wins it will more than likely be due to an oddity such as a rain-out like David Reutimann at Charlotte in '09.

That or Danica will win on a restrictor plate track with someone pushing her. Kind of like the way Trevor Bayne won Daytona.Bug

I didn't finish watching the qualifying but, seems half the field was over 200 mph! If they can keep that up, it'll be a short race time wise....
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
