Miss Daytona in Pat's Back Yard
Saw a link today to a restored hydroplane from the '20's running in the river at Bay City, MI!! Collector Bruce Meyer apparently bought the old wood boat, and flew to Bay City to drive it before it headed west to join his collection of fine machinery. A link to the Saginaw River run - 1929 Miss Daytona Hydroplane on VimeoRoger

Saw this a couple days ago.. It is a neat old boat. Kind of makes me want to build a vintage racer.. Glen L sells Crackerbox plans which altho their design does not qualify for sanctioned events, can be streached to use a Velvet drive transmission, so they actually gain forward neutral and reverse. Many old race boats ( Crackerbox is a common class ) do not use a transmission for F-N-R, and they are direct drive. start and goYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

That's pretty cool stuff.
17'...........? I remember the hairiest boat ride I took. A 16' flatbottom "ski" boat with a 427 Chev.................hooooweeee!! That was a hand-full..............but what a grin it put on your face.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.

Yeah, I still recall the afternoon my soon to be ex-wife swung outside on a turn at 55mph and must have hit 75mph or more before she let the ski get away from her. She skipped like a flat rock about three times before going under, then came up and skipped again. The force straightened out the "D" rings on the floatation belt she had on... Still brings a little smile to my face after forty years....Roger
