Happy Veteran's Day
Just a quick Thank You to all the Veteran's who have served. We host a nice parade locally this afternoon. It's nice to see the big turnout(35K last year), plus the Huey fly over and all the military aircraft. I'll try to get some shots to post later!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

The sound of a huey can't compare to the thrill of riding a chinook.
Man, those canooks know how to give you a ride.
I think the coolest part was seeing the Afghanis waving up at us.
If I never get in another chopper, well at least I had that ride.
The side gunner asked if I wanted to man the gun. He was kidding of course, but dam if I didn't want to. I nearly jumped over the cargo... I guess that would count as jumping at the chance..
Thanks for all the support..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Steve - great shots and those of us afflicted by nostalgia really enjoy thinking back to times when we were young. Watched American Graffiti last night with Joanie and my sister-in-law - talk about young! Harrison Ford and Ron Howard were kids - but weren't we all 40 years ago.
As to the Chinooks - years after spending a bit of time with them, I'd hear one in the distance and tell my kids, "that's a Chinook - the helicopter with two rotors." They'd ask, "how do you know, dad?" I'd smile and say, "trust me here - there's somethings you never forget."
My thanks and sincerest regards to all my fellow soldiers - live well and never forget. It's okay if you still get a lump in your throat when you hear the Star Spangled Banner - I know I do!
Blessings All,

Yep California was pretty much out of it, other than supplying gold and some support troops to the west, but lots of conflicts over the north vs. south affected the northern and southern parts of this state. Funny thing is we have a huge group of Civil War reinactment folks that fire black powder pistols, rifles, and cannons once a year locally, and always a few out at the local rifle range.
One thing to remember though is that this town was officially formed in 1858, pre-Civil war, like my house built in 1858. You don't see much stuff older than that because of the 1906 EarthQuake, Petaluma was one of the few survivors for Victorian error building and houses. Our town was formed as a supply depot in a sense to San Francisco during the Gold Rush. Once was known as the Egg Capital of the World!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Don't know the sound of a Chinook, but the sounds of the Huey are haunting coming in low and slow! I think all the Viet Nam Vets were moved by it's addition to the Parade.
I was actually surprised to see the Civil War dressed guys in the Parade, but they represent what is important about Vets, the sacrifice for the freedoms we still enjoy. Like Glenn said, thanks to all who have served and their families.
It was fun seeing the 1940's uniforms and the women dressed up dancing with the troops, as well as WW1 troops. I was sad when the POW float went by, it just seems the pain will never end there." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Yup - that's the sound. When I saw Acts of Valor I nearly needed medics to get me out of the theater! That scene where the firefight took place between the river boats and the guys on shore was the most realistic portrayal of engagement I've ever seen. I nearly tasted the blood."Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty." John Basil Barnhil
Thank you Roger. .
