    Odd Gears

My Grandson and I are building a 90 degree jack shaft as a winter project .....it works out as a good way to teach him about gears and ratios etc.

In the process I came across a couple of videos I thought some of you might get a kick out of. I must have led a shelter life as I have never seen square gears before!!!!!

While that was interesting, this is the darnedest set of gears I've ever seen, especially considering they were actually manufactured and sold!!!!!

Very cool Mike! I don't think I'd ever seen square cut gears before, either, and for sure I'd never seen that type of "reduction" gearing for increased power in portions of each stroke! Ya' admire the guy that came up with that one! Can you imagine the jaws dropping the first time he fired up such a pump drive?

Ah, the creative mind of man.
Neat stuff Mike, always enjoyable when you come up with this sort of thing.

    Wowzer Zowzer!

That's just awesome. I had a little gear set when I was a kid that was a bunch of round gears and a board with pegs, but never have I seen anything like the square ones. Thanks for sharing the video.
