    Happened 55 years ago !

The Day the Music Died !
Anyone old enuff to remember where they were and how it effected them? I know that Ken does. I was a Senior in HS and it hit me pretty hard since I was a musician and avid rock and roller. We had a little garage band and all of the casualties were Musical Heroes of mine.

You're right em, I was a sophomore getting ready to head to school when the news came over the radio and it was a sad day for sure. Gone but not forgotten and as Sonny Curtis sang in the "The Real Buddy Holly Story", "you hear Buddy Holly every time you play rock and roll".

(Sophomore) I remember going straight for newspaper in the school library that next morning. I heard the story unfold on the radio on the way to school. I remember the mad scramble for the newspaper because there were already a pack of students gathered around to read it. Everybody was in shock and such a sad loss. Patsy Cline was another sad one during that time. That's the way life goes ~ there are no guarantees.

Buddy was and always will be ~ my favorite!

That flight was destined for disaster the way it unfolded. The young pilot was inexperenced with the nav equipment in that Beechcraft Bonanza. Especially when confronted with a snow storm and poor visability at Night..
Should not have happened. Poor pilot judgement and definate lacked the IFR skills required for that flight in IMC..

I was only 8 but I do remember my oldest sister and brother were both very upset by the news.....It was years later before I realized the significance of what had happened.

I was almost 10 years old and remember thinking "I hope this doesn't lead to the end of this kind of music"

Yep. Sad day indeed. I was listening to pandora radio today and American Pie was playing and an older customer asked me if I knew the significance of the song, and I told him yup, gave him the 3 names and the date.. I may have been born in 1988 but I still grew up with the music

Your parents obviously did an amazingly good job on bringing you up; ensuring you knew the things in life that that are important.
