Going to seem strange next Sunday with a Richard Childress owned black Chevrolet #3 starting on the pole for the Daytona 500. It's been 15 years since the #3 car ran in the top NASCAR series race. This time it will be Richard's grandson, Austin Dillon, driving the car!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Didn't watch qualifying today... But I did see last nights race. Overall I was pleased with the cars, seems like they all had a chance to pass and that's all we can ask for. The new spoiler height changes the draft from what most are accustomed to. The side draft now seem to slow the car that's ahead, rather than speed up the car that's trying to pass.
Smoke, Danica both suffered engine failure, Plus 1 other chevy.. no one saying what the issue is tho'...

Gotta wonder what happened to the 3 Hendrick engines yesterday, all they would say today was a "procedural" problem, whatever the heck that is supposed to mean!!!! The extra inch on the spoiler height appeared to really hook up the back end.....gotta wonder how much it's going to come to play in the race. When a car could catch the air off a 3 or 4 car string ahead of him, he'd pull up on them like gang busters!!!!! Danica went from dead last and dang near losing the draft to like 4th place in 3 laps!!!!! Bump drafting is probably gone and if the right group of cars get together they can go from worst to first all in one lap!!!! As always the qualifiers Thurs evening will give some good hints as to what's going to happen on Sunday with 43 cars on the track!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Yeah, "procedural",,??,,?? good way of saying "we ain't telling"! And Danica making it back to the pack was telling! She was hanging on by the fingertips and made it back and started passing cars!
Don't know about you but I can't wait for the qualifiers!

I enjoy the qualifiers sometimes more then the race itself! I don't believe any of the teams show everything they have in the practice sessions but they do let it all out in the qualifiers!
Looks like a really good crop of rookies this year, too! Could be a real interesting opener this year!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

It's kinda funny when we say rookies.. these guys have more experience behind the wheel and at high speed than ever before. The only piece they're missing is the horsepower and the weight.. I think the "proving ground" in NASCAR does a great job and filters out the "less qualified"..
The other thought I meant to mention earlier was during the race when they came off turn 4 (I think) and Jimmy Johnson got loose / crashed.. that surprised me, the additional spoiler height is clearly not planting the cars hard to the track when in traffic... But the lead car gets pushed into the track hard but the spoiler acts like an anchor.... this is going to make things interesting on the superspeedways to be sure!

I only watched about an hour of the Sunday afternoon running, not enough to talk about things but when you say "...a procedural problem..." in engine assembly that says to me that they know which guy messed up his assigned task back in the final assembly area, like the guy who adjusts valves, or the guy who sets ring gaps, or the guy who torques plugs..... Whatever, you can bet that if they know "...it's procedural" the guy(s) at fault know the right procedure this morningRoger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Not disputing you RSpears, they know what happened to be sure but it is something they do at the track, probably a valve adjustment I'm thinking.. and it goes across multiple camps so it's more or less commom practice.
Or... more likely "used to be".. LOL..

Didn't realize it was an "at track" procedure, and yeah that changes things a bit. Bet they have a new "procedure" before the end of the day.....don't you think?Roger

I'll bet all the chevy teams had a new "procedure" 30 minutes after the issue was identified!

Practice for the Duals is on now, probably some drafting practice to get some more information about how fast the cars close up when drafting---suppose they'd like to avoid some of the wrecks caused by closing speed in the shootout race?????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
