Should a person use some kind of sealer with head gaskets? I never have in the past.

No. Use a top quality gasket such as Felpro.

you did not say what was the makeup of gasket .tin use a dressing indian head. copper sealant .form-a-gasket. OMC type m. MLS head gaskets some what dry but around water and steam holes in deck i use a dressing like hylowmar or permatex form a gasket. copper head gaskets. yamma bond. head gaskets that are composition gaskets embossed /graphite core with steel core /enbossed fire ring steel or copper wire . dry... flat and clean will make the head gaskets happy. but you will need the right profile finish on the block and head . do not use a 3M red or brown wheel on a drill it will clean but part will not be flat after your done . i have taken over .004 off heads were a guys think they were doing good. you can not use a drill with a 3m disc and still have it flat if you go after it like many do. with them wheels you do take metal off .3m wheels will not take the place of Mill the best way to clean a used head /block deck that is flat or any thing what you want to keep flate is rigid long board with 80 grit to 120 sanding paper on a long board that they use in body shops for blocking body work and cross sand part with boadLast edited by pat mccarthy; 03-14-2014 at 09:33 AM.
