If I don't double space and put a period it looks like this.

    Steve,
I believe that if you looked at the thread on someone else's computer you would see that your post #1 would look identical to everyone else's posts, and your post #2 would have a much larger space at the bottom, plus one lonely period at the left side. As in the response to Mike, the color of the lines, print and background depend on each individual's "General Settings". Unless you have your "settings" aligned, there may be differences in what you see, IMO.

Which is exactly how Steve's Post #1 looks to me, and I expect to everyone except Steve.

With a double space and a period, it spaces the message up off the bold black line. I've been doing this for years.

A wee experiment you can try.
    Go to 'Advanced Reply'.
    Write your text.
    Press the 'Enter' key.
Go up to the control panel above where you're writing.
Go to the 'right alignment' button.
(You've got 'align left', then 'centre' then 'align right'.)
    Click it.
    Then type 'Like'.
(If you want you can change the colour of your text to 'blue' when you do this.)
    Then click 'Submit Reply'.
    Voila!
But this is how it will then appear to everybody else:

    Yep.
To you that 'Like' would have raised your text off the bottom line, as mine did for me.
To me that 'Like' of yours raised it two spaces off the bottom line.

    What a fascinating subject.

What gripping lives we must all lead!
