I have a 1947 13' aluminum trailer co. tear drop shaped trailer. I havent even looked at it for years and thought it might be time to pull it out of the shed, fix her up a bit and send her down the road. I have a few questions and was wondering if there was a good place to discuss this beauty?

Oh wow! How cool is that!! I'm certainly no authority but this looks like as good a place as any to me......

Kool stuff.. Love it.. Put it in a bag and send it down here.. I could find a place for it..

M.T., that is a cool rig, more pics please.. some of the interior?? Looks like a few folks here would like to own that! And I'm one of them!

All I can say is that when Brent restored his vintage aluminum trailer, he went just a little overboard with the buffing wheel. I'll leave it at that

Ok what I know about the trailer is it was built in 1947 in Glendale Ca. by the Aluminum Trailer Co. It has a 3 didgit hull number on it but it escapes me at the moment as to what it is. It is a 13' walk in camping trailer. I was given the trailer gutted as the PO was going to open the back and use it to haul his toys to the desert. He got it all stripped and stopped. I was going through the divorice at the time and really needed a distraction, so the trailer gave me that. It was a good excuse to stop into antiques stores and look for weird things and a good excuse to learn how to sew. As well as a bunch of other things. The plan was to pull it with a 40 Ford COE I was working on.

Needless to say the interior was created through my warped thought process and the only original thing inside is the ice box. Now that I think about it the same warped thought process was used on the exterior as well. I always dug the old Popeye travel trailers in the cartoons. they were always flying behind the cars flopping around and never really following the way they should. So I fabbed up the wings, porthole windows, fender skirts, luggage rack, and a few other things. And yes thats a tranny fly wheel cover over the door!

How can I find out a fair value for this for resale? I was going to off it a few times now and really didnt feel right with the prices I was asking. I have had it out a few time to different hot rod camp out functions... If you dont want attention and folks knocking on the door day and night wanting to peek inside this trailer is not for you...

Value? There's an old saying that goes, "It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay"! I guess you'll have to watch the auction sites and see what they sell for, not asking price!

And like anything for sale, you have to advertise it to draw the most interested parties.


But you knew all that! Just let me know when you offer it for sale! LOL..

It's hard to know what fair market value is...it just depends on what people are willing to pay for a customized piece. My trailer was $3500 in very good original condition...and a couple thousand later and a lot of work, it's pretty cool. What are you considering asking for it?

Leaks and water damage will be the primary concerns people have.
