I have to say working on this 66 Mustang has had me praying a lot more, trying not to cuss. I'm heading back to Chevy's after this one. There is nothing no this car that is easy to get at or work on. Well maybe the points.

A Mustang has you cussin'?? you ever work on the same year Corvette!?!?? That'll make me cuss every time!

Bad news for my Son and his Son because last year we drove down to Sheridan and picked up his "first" car which is one of the ones being cussed and discussed here. Looks like the first thing they will have to fix is the wipers and, like Charlie said, it ain't that accessible. Hopefully it will turn out to be the wiring or switch and they won't have to drop the wiper motor.

To get the passenger side valve cover off (gaskets leaking) you have to remove the heater hoses. Not bad but they are like pipes from being dry. No big deal just change the hoses. No big deal but the hoses go to the heater core INSIDE the cab. To get the heater box out you have to remove the A/C which is under the dash. The plugs on the pass side will have to have wife get them started as my hands do not fit in there. Corvette yes they are a pain in the ars, but they are not as bad as this. Can't wait till I change the fuel pump and gas tank what exciting things will be revealed there.

Hmmmm, me thinks maybe NOW would be a good time for my kiddos to change projects???

I think it would be a great car to rod, but as a driver with all the creature comforts on it they are a pain to work on. Big block & 4 speed with 9" out back, it would be hard to hold down .
It really ain't a lot of fun getting in and out of either, reminds me of my vet.

When you get the heater core out put the new hoses on and clamp them down and then route them through the holes in the firewall, otherwise you'll be doing some more cussin'.

A '66 with a big block??? What does it have for an engine?

Yep that's the only way you can do it. Just never seen anything set up that way before

Must have been fun to stuff a big block in that thing, one of the reasons they widen them starting in 67

We call that "shoe horning" down here.

You could always swap out the front suspension for the Mustang II style kit, which gets rid of the shock towers.....

then you could go big block or even the wide modular Cobra DOHC 4.6......

Yeah, the heater hoses are a real joy! The plugs shouldn't be an issue unless someone did stuff a big block in her.. My 67 with the 390 wasn't fun to change plugs and the worst one was hidden by the master cylinder. So I would pull the valve covers to gain just a bit more room.

I did a vette wiper motor repair once, the one with the vacuum switches to raise the cowl lid... I got so frustrated trying to find the hoses and switches I said the heck with it and pulled the dash and console! I wish I had a camera to get a picture of the owners face when he saw what I had done to his pride and joy!! LOL..

its just a 289 and that's big enough for that bay. It has a air (heat) tube coming up off the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner on the pass rear. that takes up all the room to get at the plugs there. Plus the tubes for the choke and one other I'm not sure what its for yet.

The 289 should have 2 tubes for the choke heater. 1 carries filtered air down from the carb to be heated by the manifold the other is the return from the manifold.. if I remember correctly.. My 67 had the same setup.
