Remembering Those Who Served !
This coming weekend is "Memorial Day Weekend" and I would personally like to thank all who Served. I plan on spending some time on the phone this weekend telling my Heroes how much I appreciate their sacrifices for myself, my family and my Country.
Words can't begin to do it properly so "Thanks and God Bless"
meller.

Many of us have served, but it is those who paid the ultimate price that this day is all about. I lost a lot of good friends and hope everyone remembers all of the generations that paid for our freedom with their lives. I pray that our current military is fighting for the same resolve... Thanks guys for making my families world safe and livable! God bless each and every one of you!
On a side note... Thanks for this post! I need to sit and remember once in awhile, so here I am sitting in my office remembering, writing, and crying like a baby. Im remembering some really cool cats that havent been with us for awhile...Last edited by M.T.; 06-20-2014 at 11:49 AM.

I try and live an American life to it's fullest every day, to the best of my abilities, as a thank you for all that have sacrificed and to the opportunities available to me as a result. But of course, on this special weekend, a special thank you should go out.Last edited by August Mariner; 05-23-2014 at 12:58 PM.

I try to tell service men and women thanks for your service when ever I see them in uniform. Too often people look at them and scowl. Dumb people we have today! They do not have a clue what these folks do for us and they are under paid and all that.
Thanks to all of you who have served and protected this fine country! I'm going to try to get out to my Grandfather's resting place this weekend. None of my kids were able to meet him but he served in 2 wars and was a great man. My daughter is only 3 but I think it is time she know where Grandma Doris's papa is. I hope you all enjoy the weekend as well.Ryan

I lost my Dad one year ago today ,He was 88 years old and a WW2 vet. He served in the 10Th mountain Division in Italy . He was a machine gunner and received the Bronze Star. He was a great Dad and I miss him.

All gave some, some gave all...... This is the weekend to remember and honor the latter... Do it quietly, do it raucously, do it at a big party with friends, it doesn't matter.....JUST DO IT!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I think for many of those who have served, the two “holidays” that cause us to reflect the most are Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
I remember my Dad (a WWII vet) and many other of his generation always referring to Memorial Day as Decoration Day. Back before Memorial Day became a floating holiday (to give everybody a three day weekend), no matter what the weather was like or how much work needed to be done on the farm he would always take always take a couple of hours off. Mom would prepare some vases with flowers from the garden and the whole family would travel to the cemetery. Among the graves we stopped at were always his dads’ (a WWI vet) and his Great Granddads’ (a wounded Civil War Vet) graves and place flowers.
It took a long time (and spending some time in the service myself) to realize what the real significance of this day is and why my dad did what he did. We had all lost some people we knew while they were on active duty……there but for the grace of God.
Anyway here are my hopes that everybody has a safe and happy holiday, and thanks to those who have served and especially those who have lost a loved one or friend who was serving the country.

Agree, 11/11 is the day to honor all who served. The last Monday in May is to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. August's post above says it for me.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

All Memorial Days are sad when you think why we have a Memorial Day, but this Memorial Day will be especially sad here. Friends of ours lost their Son this week during a Marine training exercise. He would have been 21 today. His funeral will be next Friday."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.
"LIVE" your life like you could die tomorrow.

If it weren't for the heros in our recent past, we'd have to stop every few blocks to show our papers to the Gestapo or pledge allegiance to the flag of the rising sun. God bless our troops and the troops of our allies and God bless America.

The American Flag in this picture last flew some 15 or so years ago on my parents house. The house was sided & for whatever reason the flag mount never went back on the house. Never the less it flies ones again.
I fly this flag in memory of both my parents, both who had a huge impact not only in my life but lives of many other people also.
I fly this this Flag for ALL Soldiers Past, Present & Future.
I Fly BOTH Flags in Honor of our son Joe and all His Brothers in Arms.
