    Red Tape or such

My friend from Nepal was explaining to me how one of the neighbors can purchase a new motorcycle, delivered to the United State from a foreign county (Asia mainly but one bike was a BMW), disassemble it here then ship it back to some Asian country in parts, reassemble it and sell it for less because of taxes and make a profit.

His wife's car cost $60K, in Nepal, but with a guaranty to be repurchased from the seller because the car will be worth more in 5 years. Only for certain makes and models.

Legal or not, I don't know - but for a profit with all the back and forth, assemble disassemble! Wow!

If it's BS the guy down the street has been wasting his days for years.

He said something about the high taxes to purchase new. So perhaps you buy the bike back in parts and reassemble it, then drive it on a fake tag or something. He moved back to Nepal, that's when he told me about his wife's car purchase. It was for a used Toyota Corolla or something that you could have bought here for $5K at the time. I have a Yamaha Maxim (1982) 750. He said his foreign friends will pay top dollar for it like it was a classic Harley to them.

So you take a used Toyota for $5k disassemble it and ship it to Nepal and $60K minus shipping profit? I guess something like that. Perhaps customs for a whole bike or car is high? I don't know anyone who is shipping cars just bikes. I was just using the Toyota as a hypothetical example.

If "they" are doing it, the money must "work"! I would assume the shipping to be killer! I guessed wrong!
