Wayne,
Don says that we'll be pulling in Wednesday afternoon, and running around the area Thursday & Friday so we may see you somewhere! At the show there's a "Specialty Vehicle" area off of entrance #17 for the heathen with tops , limited to pre-75. That's where I'll be, along with one or two others traveling in the group.
On the trip, I'll be running solo Saturday about six hours , but once at Don's place we'll be ten or twelve together which should be a good time!Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Don, for sure will be at 66 the evening of the 8 to welcome the group. Plan on leaving with you the morning of the 9th. Been hot here and good test for the desert, we have seen over 100. Where Jerry lives, I think has been 105-106. Supposed to be cool when the Greybeards arrive, play on words there. Save me a sticker!!!

As long as there is Cellphone coverage on that 6 hour journey Roger, all is well, but as mentioned, you have the mileage on your car now that this should be an enjoyable walk , no, drive in the park so you relax and enjoy yourself.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Told Don this morning that my hope is that the low pressure center that's holding this weather pattern in the area will move off by Saturday morning, but it looks like it's not going to cooperate. This is the projected weather map for Saturday, June 7...

Some of the guys runnin from the right coast ran thru 2 hrs of rain 2day, they are in Jackson Tenn 4 the night. I can assure you that the cars won't shrink over nightWhen I get to where I was goin, I forgot why I went there>

I've got the windshield (windscreen for deep southerners) freshly RainX'd and I've already confirmed that shrinkage is not a concern, at least with the car I'm more concerned with the winds that accompany the thunderstorms. In our area this morning we had some fairly heavy rains, but then as they started to dissipate we had winds out of the east, which is quite unusual, and they were in the 50 to 60 mph range which makes driving a street rod with skinny front tires a bit dicey if coming lateral.Roger

Roger, all part of the fun! When I saw the weather tonight, there was this big old block of RED denoting severe crap right where our friends were traveling. Rain X helps but the real fun is when the roadster drivers only have those funny leather hats to ward off the rain. (Rain on the coast is warm, rain out here will freeze you quickly). Like your neighboor hood, it can go to hail real quick. Oh and cell phone coverage mentioned above? That is something you enjoy in towns. It really does not apply across New Mexico and Arizona. As said: all part of the fun.

Grey Beards on this site, take note. The Route 66 club is having their NM 66 run. They left Gallup yesterday, Albuquerque today. and in Tucumcari Sunday. Tucumcari is having it's Route 66 Festival on Sunday. Includes a car show, rod run, Route 66 museum open, rockabilly bands, Parade, and Tucumcari Tonight Burnout. Sounds like it is worth a look see as you go through. Take first exit into town and take a look. If you follow the 66 all the way through town, just before you exit back on the freeway, watch on the left for the 66 sign - photo op - at the visitors center. Also there is one of the big elect windmills near by and you can hear why they are in the middle of nowhere. Noisy.
Check this out . . .

Pulled out from the house at 7am in the rain, topped off the gas tank at the I35 junction and jumped on headed south. Fell in to an easy 80mph, passing more than I got passed. Around Emporia, about 75 miles out the rain tapered off and the windows went down more. Past Wichita the gas gauge was creeping towards the big E so I stopped to fill the tank and empty mine - calculated 17.1mpg which is not too shabby, but not great, either. Back on the road, windows down, laker pipes rumbling nice. Toll gate ahead, which means Oklahoma is only about 16 miles away!! Idled down, paid the toll, nice lady at the toll booth and back on the road, everything's cool.
Now at 80mph with baffled laker pipes right at the door edge the noise level is OK, but pretty loud, making it hard to hear little noises, but about five miles down the road I had one of those "...what's that clatter??" thoughts, glanced at the oil pressure gauge and it's sitting dead at zero. Dump the clutch, hit the kill button, steer to the shoulder (construction zone, of course, but a full shoulder, thankfully!!) and take a breath. Cursing my stupidity I thought, "Why didn't I check the oil when I filled up!!", but then I pulled the dipstick and found it full, right where we started four hours back....
Ran through the possibilities, decided a quick start wasn't going to damage anything any more than it was already, and had a raucous clatter so I shut it down within a couple of seconds. I figure that either 1) the oil pump drive sheared, or 2) the oil pump pickup dropped into the pan. Regardless, I'm done.
Called home and told my wife that the ten day vacation without me under foot was coming to a screeching halt, and 'Oh, BTW, my engine may be trashed.' Next was a call to AAA, confirming that their promise of a 200 mile tow was real, and trying to explain to them exactly where I was in space. For some reason GPS longitude and latitude numbers were Greek to them....
Next was a call to Don, telling him my situation and that instead of joining him for the afternoon BBQ I would be riding a flatbed tow rig back home. Not what I intended, and not a very happy hot rodder at this moment.....
Getting ready for the long ride home

Not good, sorry to read that Roger. Hope the engine damage is not as bad as predicted.
As with all New Zealander's would love to do a road trip over there one day.
