Well Darn! I was looking forward to seeing your car. Pictures on top of a flat bed are horrible things. Sorry. Bet if you had made it to Don's, the group would have just pulled the pan and done a quick fix. Great group of Hot Rodders.

Yeah Ray, Don said much the same thing, stating that by midnight tonight it would have either had a new long block or the problem identified and fixed. Problem is I was still two hours away from Don's place, and with no oil pressure it wasn't moving any farther south.... It's home now, and I'll probably drop the pan tomorrow or Monday and see what I can find.Roger

Hell Roger, my heart bleeds for you too and as the rest have mentioned, lets pray that the Ford can be replaced with a Chevy real quick.......
Hopefully that brought a smile to your face...... Oh, John Boy is being real polite when he just said Bugger three times as I personally would of used a four letter word starting with a F and ending with a K several times as I know how much you have looked forward to this trip. Good luck with the peak inside and I will pray it is an easy fix.
I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Roger----pull the distributor first and check the cam, gear, pump drive---take a pump primer and see if you get oil pressure----lots easier way to get an idea of just what is the problem---------
sorry if this is considered side tracking the thread------

Thanks Jerry. Since it very quickly started on the side of the road I'd think that the cam, cam gear & distributor gear are at least good enough to drive the distributor. Now the pump drive off the bottom of the dizzy gear could be gone, or the shaft sheared. With the ProFlow unit the dizzy won't come out without pulling the entire intake assembly, but that still might be a good starting point vs dropping the pan.
Now back to the regularly scheduled program, the Road Trip to LARS for the guys who have cars that run reliably!Roger

Forgot this was a Ford. My bet is on the drive shaft to the pump. Either it fell out, sheared, or the little retaining ring broke allowing it to fall. As a kid I had to drop the pan in a Comet just far enough to reach in and install a new one. Part of old one was stuck in pump, just enough that you could not get it out without lowering the pan. Was stopped in a park in Colorado Springs and it took two hours including the walk to a dealer. Left the remainder of the old one in the bottom of the pan while I drove the 400 miles home.
