Crisp, clear, concise threads laying out what is not working are the only way we know when something is broken.

I've sent this thread to Brent for his attention and input as I might be the Wizard,

But Brent is the man behind the curtain that is running the show

Most forums are free unless you believe enough in their worth to pay to support them. When you pay it is to help the owner/s pay for the cost of operation and keep them running correctly. It helps to off set the costs for those that dont pay but use it often. If it doesn't bother you that the forum isn't working correctly thats your choice to compromise and look the other way. All this is a mute point if it was just fixed.

"Guess I'm just too computer stupid too know what's such a big deal anyhow. Not the first time a post like this has started and about all I've ever seen them accomplish is a bunch of hurt feelings and people leave. I'm a Hot Rodder, not a computer geek."

I Beg to differ with you on your assessment of yourself. A contributor with 20,200 posts makes you a computer geek as well. Whether you want to wear that badge or not. So sit on your hands and continue to say nothing and hope it gets better... WOW! What if your Hot Rods worked like this forum works. It would work just good enough to get to the gas station and back home, Maybe. Oh well, thats good enough... dont fix it. Folks would watch you drive by and shake there heads and sniker. I think not. This forum is a hot rod, a hot rod that needs a tune up. Thats it.

I'm not trying to piss off anyone here but this seems to be the only way to draw attention to these issues. If the page views for this thread for 2 days is any indicator of its relevance I would have to listen. I do have a forum of my own and know a little about what is involved in keeping one up and running. It's one thing if some one is continually griping about issues that don't exist. Its another if several people gripe once in a while with issues that really do exist. Chances are If your not a computer geek you most likely shouldn't have a forum on the net in the first place? With just a little effort these glitches could be rectified and no one would ever ever say anything about it again, People wouldn't get pissy, people would stick around and live happily ever after. Just Fix It?

Flip side of the coin is they may not care that people come people go... no biggie? I have tried PM'ing them about advertising and other issues on the forum... no responce at all, nothing but crickets? Ive even contacted a few mods for direction on who to contact. Maybe my private messaging is turned off or they are just over the whole thing??? I have PM's enabled but no answers?

No more input about the forums issues from me. Think the point has been made and I have no intent in driving this into the ground. It's frustrating and is enough to make this car builder / computer geek think really hard about logging in at times. I love the folks here, I love the feel of the forum with its kick back kinda of feel, I like everything about it with the exceptions of things listed above. Heck I even paid up to be a member knowing this place is stumbling around on 7 cylinders. Just fix it... please. Thanks for hearing my frustrations.

EDIT... Mr. Mustang slid in the above response before I posted this post.

Well, it's funny you mention this, having just picked the car up from the engine builder, she decided to not start again after 58 total miles (yes, engine was broken in properly) in to a 700 miles relocation trip.

    1stepback.jpg

A little Karma (no pun intended) when the rollback sent to fetch the car was actually also painted Grabber Orange.

Running hot, really hot at highway speeds. Then up and quits. Originally a vapor lock issue (first 33 miles) and one week of trouble shooting (new fuel pump, new filter, check timing, new premium 3 row HD radiator, heat sink shields below the carb for starters) and the next 25 miles all highway, ran hot, stopped at the local truck stop, would not fire until it cooled, plenty of fuel this time, but just did not want to fire. Engine builder has it at his shop, he has more experience in dealing with this than I do sitting in the parking lot at the truck stop with limited tools...

Ive been around this block a few times myself. Might want to be sure there is a fan shroud around the fan making that air suck through the radiator. Ive built intake scoops before that didnt work until I put vortec fins in to break up the air flow, then they worked perfectly. Just something to concider if all else fails. Its like chasing an electrical short with out insturments...

I certainly take the "credit" for things not working as they should. I almost had the "opportunity" to be at this full time having just missed a layoff recently...I told myself that I would take a spare time activity and turn it into mostly full time to get through the issues, but unfortunately I stayed employed.

That said, I really do recognize the challenges. There's some stuff I just need to focus on and fix and there's a lot of things that I am just honestly very gun shy about adjusting/updating. In the past, all hell broke loose when I updated the site and that has really put me in a deer in the headlights situation, as I really don't want to piss people off...I'm sure that in the past people felt like I didn't care that I changed the experience and people were upset, but nothing could have been further from the truth. It has made me fearful to do much, and I have let it affect my maintenance as well. I'll work to do better and apologize for the problems.

Sometimes that has to do with browser or security software settings. It runs off the same software as your post button, so it should work all the time.

Thanks for your honesty and the reply Brent. Having been in your shoes at one time I understand exactly where you are at and now it all makes since. The up side is it is fixable and now everyone knows if there is an issue it's not due to you not caring. And once fixed it's fixed for the most part for ever never to be dealt with again. Kinda

I found that I could go in the back room and tinker with basic code and flip switches as long as I copied down what I was doing and exactly where it was being changed at. I could always reverse it if I didn't get the results I was after. I know that with my forum which is run by simple machines smf that their web site is a great help. I can go on their forum and post up my issue I'm having with the forum and much like this forum there are folks that will walk you through any issues you ask about. I can sure understand being gun shy but now that we know your behind the scenes mutt-ling around we have your back... I'm sure there are folks here that know V Bulletin that can help you out in the back room.

Another suggestion is to make a heading or a topic on the bottom of the form directory page. Make it a "CHR help page" or something like that. That way if someone is having an issue on the forum there is a place to post it and it can be easily found by you. I did this and at first I was finding notes about things I had no clue that they weren't working. I never get notifications on that thread any more. Also folks can go to that page and see if their issue has already been posted. If so they may add some little tid bit of info that might help you pinpoint the problem. Once that is done take all the threads like this one and bury them there so they are no longer a distraction to the forum. Thanks again Brent, sorry for coming down so hard on you but through it you've shown yourself to be a stand up guy! It's appreciated and respected... Thanks.

Feel free to contact me if I can help you in any way. Bob Engel

And since this has become the "Problem Page".. I'd like to post this for Don Shilady who has asked a question about pictures and if there is a policy and/or a time limit?

I did ask Don to look into this thread, but don't see where he's done that.

As always, Brent and Bill thanks for all you do! We most certainly appreciate the efforts and I know I completely understand how you both might be a bit "gun shy"... Also, Bob, Bob, Bob... Thanks for making the effort to support CHR and make it a better place to hang out! Now I can butt out!

Thanks for the kind words and that was my only intent... Improving things. As far as you butting out... why start now? Hey these forums are like a giant disfunctional family. Try to keep the focal point on the main theme and let it flow. Ever notice how the page views spike when there is some kind of flair up? Un comfortable sometimes but it draws out oppinions and views that are often just glossed over. Just like in real life sometimes a little spatt clears the air and things are good for a long time. It's been aired out now I hope we can go directly to the warm fuzzy place once again. Whats that, So you say your building A hot rod?

Last time I let it fly... well, we lost a member over it! But Mr. White still looks in once in awhile I believe.

But you're right, we need to vent once in awhile then shake it off and go forward.
