Need a new shop phone...
So about every 3 or four years I need to buy new phones for the shop. Over time the magnet's in the ear pieces fill up with microscopic metal shavings and start to get quieter and quieter. So why not just clean them out you ask? Typically in a 4 year time span technology leaves the prior purchased phones obsolete. The price to replace is reasonable so I go that way.
I'm getting so busy that I wondering if there was a blue tooth system for home / business phones? Something I could hang in my ear and still work and talk. Yep I'm A multi tasker. Not really, I just stayed at a holiday inn last night! Have any of you gone this route or know of anyone who has? Is it worth pursuing?Bob, Bob, & Bob

Something like this might do the trick - a cordless phone with a Bluetooth headset. Many cordless home phones now have the ability to link with any Bluetooth headset, even if they don't come with the headset.
Amazon.com: VTech DS6671-3 DECT 6.0 2-Handset Connect to Cell Answering System with Cordless Headset: Electronics

phones are worthless when you or anyone serving a customer leaves his focus on the customer. I get real irritated when I have waited in line for service and the serviceman picks up the phone when it rings and gives me only half his attention. Usually just that few seconds he forgets why I'm there or what he was doing. I instantly lose my confidence in that person and his product. I'm sorry but if I am busy they can call back or wait in line.

Don't really know what customer service has to do with needing a new phone? Specially when I keep the gate closed and I don't encourage walk in traffic at all? If someone needs to see me it is by appointment only just so I can then turn off the phone and give them 100% of my attention. All my revenue is generated over the Internet and then finalized over the phone? I need the ear piece so I can hear who I am talking to over the sound of the machinery running in the shop which is making me money. So unlike in your scenario Phones aren't worthless in my world. They are a priority and one of the most powerful, valuable tools I have. I'm not serving burgers...
And to be honest, if I had someone make a special trip to stand in front of me un announced theres a good chance they will most likley wait minute or two before they get all cross threaded and leave. That is the time I would be using to invite the guy on the phone to come in to see me! Bet I would end up getting two sales? Thanks for the input I think?Last edited by M.T.; 07-30-2014 at 07:53 PM.

Do not buy a junk vtech unit. I have always used plantronics units. The last plantronics unit I had lasted 6 years and was used 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I was a broker and always on the damn thing. It finally died when I was moving offices and it fell out of the moving box from the second floor. It couldnt take the 20' drop on a marble floor.Fabricator @ Hot Rods by George

Hey Dan it took me a few lines to realize that a vtech and plantronics was a phone and not a new ignition system. I thought I was really loosing my mind! No pun but I was going to call ya and let ya know your seat frame is finally on its way to ya. Think I nailed it! Heck a 20 foot drop on a marble floor would finish me off as well. thanks for the heads up.Last edited by M.T.; 07-30-2014 at 08:01 PM.

MT it sounds like you know how to be respectfull of your customers. For every one like you who do there are hundreds who don't and I respect you for that.

Gotta admit something here... For a few years I was the customer service manager for a large welding supply house that had several stores , then a store manager. It is really challenging on both sides of the counters at times. I couldn't believe how often people would come in wanting a part for a welding machine but couldn't tell ya what machine it was or anything about it that could help other than its color. Get 11 or 12 of those guys in a few hours and its hard to look the next guy in the eye and presume the customer is always right? LOL About that time a phone call is a blessing! LOL
Totally understand what your saying but its important to remember a lot is going on behind the scenes on both sides of the counter. We are just people after all... Hang tough and thanks. M.T.Last edited by M.T.; 07-30-2014 at 08:18 PM.
