I think I'll change my original number from 400% to 600%. Decided to make my damper boxes out of wood to fit exactly as I want behind the speakers but I'm gonna have to wait for a Grandson to drop by and install. There ain't no way I'm climbing in the trunk and contorting my bod to do it. Besides that, I give great verbal instructions to my Grandsons.

Em, I don't have a problem with wood though if you're going that route you might consider fiber board. I would use quarter round or something similar on the edges and screw it together and 90º "L" brackets to mount it to the package tray. I assume you're thinking about plywood and IMHO fiber board is easier to work with.

thanks, Mike ! Ken, I'm thinking about using 1x6 pine, glued and screwed and then I have some aerosol rubberized undercoating that I was thinking about spraying on the inside????? finding the right sized food taker wasn't as easy as I thought hahahahahaha

my step-son told me that now that I don't have the boom box speakers on the package tray, I may get kicked outa the lowriders club LOL

That's cool, I was only offering suggestions. The fiber board I was thinking about is the same stuff they make peg board out of and it's what I used to mount 6x9's in the back corners on my Vette.

I think we call it particle board down here in Tejas but it might be different stuff?

What I know as particle board glued together wood chips that is used in sheathing and cheap construction. Fiber board is heavily compressed paper and paper products that I remember as a kid was used for signs. The kind with holes in it is used for peg board and about 3/16 or so thick. I used the solid variety for drawer bottoms in the bench I made for my garage.

Once again, I'm not sure what you're talking about but is it similar to Masonite and does it hold a screw like wood?

Exactly, I never can remember the proper name so I just call it fiber board.

There three general types of fiberboard, all of which are made from wood fibers. Particleboard is made from small wood chips or even sawdust (particles). It has limited strength, and doesn't hold fasteners very well. The heavier "stuff" that we make speaker boxes, consoles, etc., from is MDF or medium density fiberboard. Masonite is an example of high density fiberboard. At least that's what most of the folks I know describe the stuff.
