It was like a quick vacation...I can scratch off my family trip to New Zealand!
Thanks for uploading all the images. The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

Thanks for posting those Ross, that's pretty much the trip we have in mind to take Roger and Susan Spears on, although I had clean forgotten about the Highland Sports Museum.
It's new since we were last down in that area.
There's a lot to see alright!
...and the Spears want to see the North Island too...
It's going to be a fast trip!
(But I know we're looking forward to it!)

Thanks for posting, Ross. Using the direct post, four or five per post is torture for me, but great photos for sure. John, if I show all of these to Susan she'll say, "Oh that's grand! We've seen all of the cars & planes so now we can focus on the natural beauty of the countryside!!"It will be a wonderful trip!

Kiwidreamer, in 2013 my wife and I took an ocean cruise around Australia, Tasmania and the south islands of New Zealand. We went through the sounds (Milford, Doubtful and Dusky) Didn't get inland much but stopped at many coastal towns. I'm here to tell you, New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places on earth!

I can't disagree Mick, but I haven't been to too many other countries to compare.
We've agreed to show our kids their home land before heading overseas. So far they have been to the top of the North Island and lower South Island, still have to do the lower North Island and top of the South Island but they are more summer time areas.Last edited by Kiwidreamer; 08-22-2014 at 06:19 PM. Well Ross and Family, allow me to say thanks also for sharing with us, and real special thanks to Mrs Ross and your two daughters for being so patient while the two "Men" checked out the museums. I grew up in Invercargill so know E Hayes & Sons Hardware very well but sadly they didn't have anything on display back then. You have also done something that I have attempted a few times but never succeeded due to snow falls etc closing the Homer Tunnel and that is driving up into Doubtful Sound. I also am amazed at the Airforce Museum in Christchurch as it has grown so big from the last time I was there. I know July can be cold and shitty weather but it certainly looks like you had absolutely marvelous weather for that time of year. The Catlins area is so awesome and wild isn't it. I smiled to myself as it appeared that you did exactly what I have always done over the years..... avoid Queenstown at all costs. Roger Spears, it will pay to take a mortgage out on California and maybe another State of your chosing to be able to spend anytime in the Tourist Ripoff Capital of New Zealand. I better climb down of my chair now. You will need the same amount of time to do the top half of the South Island to do it justice I believe.
Anyway, thanks again for taking the trouble of posting all those photo's.
I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

I took my time and marveled at each picture, was a wonderful "trip" from right here in my armchair! Thank you so much for sharing your vacation and your family with us. And I'm glad you only know the 1 way of posting pics as it gave you a chance to add a comment or description to aid the viewer in understanding what we were seeing. I know it takes longer and I want to thank you for making all the time in posting and sharing with us!
It was wonderful! Thanks Again!

Thanks all, looks like I made the right choice whether to post the pictures or not.
Whip, we had fantastic weather for those two weeks, Only 2 days of light rain, one while in Dunedin (went on the train trip where weather was fine) and other was on the last day in Christchurch.
One thing that amazed us was how saturated the ground was underfoot. Talking to locals they were saying some of the rivers still had not dropped back to normal levels for over a month, so we felt lucky.Last edited by Kiwidreamer; 08-24-2014 at 01:12 PM. Reason: poor english
Ditto on the model kits! My best were lost when the Hobby Shop burned under suspicious circumstances....
